Cased/boxed, inaccessible, to & from the range - unless you have a PA LTCF or reciprocal CCW.

If you have a ccw say from florida, just make sure you unload and lock it in your trunk before crossing the delaware. I am sure George is turning over on this one

If you know you're transporting the firearm legally in NJ, then you'll be fine crossing over to PA. I keep my pistols unloaded in a zippered rug inside my range bag in the trunk. Rifles are unloaded in a zippered case in the trunk as well. I sometimes transport my ammo in the same range bag along with the pistols because the pistols are in their own closed container (no bullets inside the rug). If I didn't have the rug, I would not be able to carry the loose pistol in the same bag as the ammo. Lately I've been placing my ammo in an ammo can separate from everything but it's not necessary.
