Knockdown Steel @ OBRPC - 7/14/12

Recommended Posts

No, won't have it back in time to use it this weekend. I had to send the lower to builder so he can build the upper and test/tune it and, as of today, he is just finishing the building part and has yet to do the testing part.

Steve, thats good to know. Did he say they would be all year round now? Previously they were somewhat seasonal with no matches for about 5-6 months during winter.

You know, I didn't think to ask if that included winter. Guess we'll find out Saturday. Hopefully, it will be like USPSA, it's on unless we have really bad weather.

I generally bring about 300 rounds just to be safe. Usually use much less... say 200 rounds or something like that. Some of the stages will have upwards of 40 plates and with 5 stages, the ammo goes quick!

generally the answer is no, 22's just don't have enough energy to knock down all the plates. maybe they will work with the smaller plate racks but with the larger poppers I think you'll have a problem. I saw a video online of a guy at a club doing the same sort of thing and he was having to triple tap the plates to coax them over. so yeah, it is possible, but you will go through a lot more ammo then the center fire guys and run the risk of not completing the stage if you run out of ammo and magazines. but it's all for fun so why not give it a shot? you can enter multiple classes so bring your pistol too.

Does anyone know if a gsg carbine in .22 will knock down the steel?

Welp, people have tried, and most gave up after a few stages.

Assuming this is the same as the previous knockdown, 22 is just too damn small to knock over the large poppers.

I emailed someone a while back and they never got back to me... have never shot steel or "practical" competitions before.

I want to shoot this with one of my stock shotguns (870 clone or 11-87, no mag extension tubes) but I don't have any equipment other than a shell bag for trap shooting. Do I need speed loaders to be able to play? Is there a par time?

I have no issues with having the worst times, I just want to at try this sport out!

No Par time, whatever you take you take. Squad with us to give us a break! Shell bag will work just fine. One important rule: If the ammo rolls-off the table or you drop it, it is out of play. If you bend down to pick it up, you are out of play. The shell bag will work just fine, ammo won't fall out of it.
