nino 0 Posted July 16, 2012 So I went just five min ago to extend my permit. I live in clifton and my detective said my cheif most likely wont extend it. Is this true? Can he really turn it down and I have the whole process over?

45Doll 5,883 Posted July 16, 2012 From NJ 2C:58-3 f.: A permit to purchase a handgun shall be valid for a period of 90 days from the date of issuance and may be renewed by the issuing authority for good cause for an additional 90 days. The operative word is 'may'. He is not obligated to renew your permit.
nino 0 Posted July 16, 2012 Damn never knew that. Thanks for the info. I've purchased my handguns on time all the time been away so I screwed myself. Never will I do this again
45Doll 5,883 Posted July 16, 2012 Well, it's an oversight; and in NJ it's hard not to have one eventually. I'm sure that will be the last time for you. Perhaps if you speak directly and politely to your chief he'll consider a renewal. I actually use a small spreadsheet. I plug in the issue date and pickup date, and it calculates the earliest future 30 day purchase dates for all permits received, and compares those dates to the 90 and 180 day expiration dates. It also tells me what day of the week those dates fall on. If it's a Sunday or holiday no good; NICS is closed. I adjust my purchase schedule accordingly. Good lord, what have I become? A handgun geek?
mcbethr 42 Posted July 16, 2012 Do what I do. Apply for 3 permits every 5 months, or in your case, every 3. I don't buy that many guns, but I like to know that I have it on hand in case I ever spot a deal.
