muzzle device attachment

Recommended Posts

Well had a conversation at a local shop and they stated they red lock tite on there muzzle breaks. Yea shady I know. But after examining my muzzle break on my ar that I purchased there I notice there is no weld on it. Me and a buddy put my upper in a vice and torqued on it and it won't come off. We even tried in reverse assuming it maybe reverse threaded . It was on consignment so I'm guessing it was done somewhere else and possible jb welded on or silver soldered on. Can anyone point me in a direction on how to identify how it was attached. Its definitely permanent it won't budge. Any help would be appreciated

If I remember correctly, the expired AWB called for 1100 degree F fixative.

Silver solder meets that requirement.

Red Loctite releases at about 500 degrees F.

Use a heat gun (like a Wagner power stripper) to heat up the brake.

If it unthreads, it was likely Loctited.

I have no experience with JBWeld, so I can't help there.

If it holds, you should be good to go.

This is what I'd expect the NJSP to do if you had the misfortune of having the rifle taken away and checked for 'permanency of attachment'
