Damjan 73 Posted December 5, 2012 What exactly are you looking for? Have you shot one before ? Do you have a budget in mind ? What Caliber ? Do you want one out of the box or do you want to build one yourself? There s an interesting thread on out of the box AR s and other information as well here : http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/41780-best-ar-out-of-the-box/

mcbethr 42 Posted December 5, 2012 We really need to know a little more. #1. Is this your first gun / do you have an FID yet? #2. What do you plan to use the gun for? Fun / plinking? Just to have or collect? Home defense? Competition? #3. Do you belong to a range? Can it handle an AR, or are you restricted to pistol caliber? I'm not a big AR fan - I like wood, but from your post, I'm going to go out on a limb and assume its your first gun. I would suggest looking into an M&P 15-22, which is a .22 LR Caliber AR. There is a very simple reason why. You can shoot .22LR rifles at most indoor ranges, and the gun and ammo won't break the bank. You can have just as much fun with a .22 LR AR as you can with a 5.56mm AR, but at pennies per round. But I would need more info about what you want to do with it... maxxishunter35 0 Posted December 5, 2012 no not my first gun i own shotguns , i have a FID , an im not really restricted to what i can shoot , and id like it for fun/plinking and poss home defence if needed i just thought they were interesting and offer many mods. but also im looking for something nice and reliable from what ive seen im guessing id like to be in the 1000 dollar range but im flexable, ill say i dont want to spend 2500 or 3000 maybe over time when its completed i could see it being worth that or more but for now im just looking for a good platform to build on

You'd need to get it modified to be NJ legal though. Remove the bayonet lug, pin a muzzle brake/compesator, and pin the collapsible stock. BCMs are good too. If you went that route, you could get the upper and lower separately and do the work yourself. Kinda hard to get a Colt at the moment. http://dsgarms.com/P...nfo/CO6920.aspx Out of stock, but they have a good price. Mods will probably cost you about $100, not including whatever muzzle device you want to pin on the end. BCM lower with A2 stock. Wouldn't have to pin this one. http://www.gandrtact...tion&key=LWR-A2 Could get any of these uppers. http://www.bravocomp...-Group-s/27.htm http://www.bravocomp...-Group-s/28.htm http://www.bravocomp...Group-s/135.htm http://www.bravocomp...-Group-s/29.htm If its out of stock, sign up to be notified. They go outta stock quick, so you'll have to be fast when you get the email. You'll also need a BCG, since those uppers don't come with one. http://www.bravocomp...20auto%20mp.htm A charging handle. This is a great upgrade no matter what AR you decide on. http://www.bravocomp...d%204%20556.htm Back up iron sites. Some say you should learn this first before optics. A good white light if you're planning on using for home defense. Sling would be a good idea too. But definately lots of mags and ammo so you can train/practice. If you want to spend a little more and get an AR with a great rail system, you could get a Daniel Defense. They're in the $1500 range. I think PK90 (forum member/dealer) has some in stock and NJ modded. http://www.colddeadhands.com/
Damjan 73 Posted December 6, 2012 If you want to stay under a grand and out of the box with no NJ compliant work Stag and Windham Weaponry come to mind....... rightisright 3 Posted December 6, 2012 You can get a pretty damned good gun for $1000. You can get a pretty kickass gun for $1500 (like the DD guns mentioned above). The stone cold minimum while still being a decent gun is going to be a S&W M&P Sport. I've seen them in NJ for $675-700.
