Help ID this muzzle loader?

Recommended Posts

Hey Gents!

I have quite the tricky one for you guys, looking for info and value on this piece here. I dont physically have it, it is for a family member of mine. I have a few pictures to work off of though. Appears to be about 12ga, smooth bore. The pictures will tell the rest. Only stamp is an R4 on top of the barrel apparently. I'll let the pictures do the talking! Thanks

Not really sure as to value since I can't remove the stock and look on the underside of the barrel to determine maker & proof marks. Check for damascus twist barrel and make sure this old boy isn't loaded by putting the ram rod down the muzzle after checking to make sure that there isn't a percussion cap on the nipple under the hammer.

Might be worth something or it might be a wall hanger....depends upon the condition of the bore and whether or not it's safe to shoot.......

Good luck Glenn!

Dave
