If I was dropping coin in that catagory it would be a Ned Christiansen, C.T. Brian,or perhaps a Chuck Rogers ground up build.

 

 

Particular smiths aside, I agree 100% with the sentiment. You are looking at $5000+ for a gun there, and for only about $3k including shipping it around for the smith and the finishing work, I got a VERY, VERY nicely made custom 2011 just the way I like it. A 1911 would be even less as a decent frame is a bit less as are a number of the parts that are not interchangeable with the 2011.

 

The only possible thing going for the big brands is if they have stock you cna have right now without the wait.
