.17hmr gonna go up?

Is .17 gonna be the next .22? I see that rim fire ammo just isn't being produced.

I've had a hard time finding .17HMR, though I just started looking...  I'm planning to get a rifle chambered in it next month and have been trying to get a little stockpile of ammo, but that has proven difficult so far...

 

What I have found has been $16-17 /50 for CCI and Winchester.

 

Ramsey Outdoor in Ledgewood does have one box of .17HMR as of yesterday afternoon ($17), and a ton of .17HM2 (I'd guess at least a couple thousand rounds from what it looked like), unsure of price. 

 

They also had 50rd boxes of CCI subsonic .22 segmented HP at $11 or 12 a box, looked like about 1000rds of that, plus some .22 shorts 100rd boxes at $13...

As soon as I saw cabelas put a limit on it I hunted down a case. I can't have ground hog season go by and not have ammo.

i just got a henry varmit. its a tack driver. i have no problems hitting clay birds on the backstop at the clinton wma with the irons. i just threw a nikon prostaff 3-9x40 on it. im hoping i can get out to sight it in this weekend.

What is the main purpose of this caliber/round?

 

I mean its a serious question, its pretty pricey and I just don't get the caliber and its purpose.

Ground hogs. Also a fun extremely accurate rifle. Also flits not that pricey. The accuracy and distance far surpasses .22 and is cheaper then center fire
