Family Transfer - Rifle

Recommended Posts

I found the form online for the transfer and it seems very easy, but I was hoping you guys/gals could confirm this for me.

A family member would like to transfer a fairly new rifle he purchased to me.  The rifle was purchased NIB in NJ (it's NJ compliant) and it has not been modified...we both have our NJ ID cards.

With that in mind, other then filling out the transfer form and having both parties sign, is there anything else I need to be aware of?

Also, are there any legal issues if I take this rifle to the range and shoot it without him present (prior to the transfer)?

Awesome, that's pretty easy.

Is it accurate to say there are no fees for this transfer and/or notification to the state/county/town??

For a long gun yes that is all. Both of you fill out a COE, other then payment for the rifle to the seller there are no fees.

Click on the big red link in my signature, and give it a read. TONS of good info you will find relevant.

I definitely will, thank you for chiming in.

None. Sign and enjoy.

Thanks guys.  When I was reading about it on the state's site, I just assumed I missed something....

Now if only they made everything else this easy!!
