Barrel jags

So I just found out about these when I was ordering cleaning patches--I have just been using a brass brush and a patch pushed through the slotted tip of a cleaning rod.

The jags look like they have potential to do damage if not used properly?

Do most poeple use these for periodic maintenance?  Do I need to start using this as well?  Pros/cons?

Brass is significantly softer than steel.  How could it do damage?

The most dangerous part of using a jag is you use too big a patch and get it stuck in the bore. Use a proper size patch and you won't have that issue.

How true. The jag pushes the patch into the grooves and gets all the junk out. After shooting lead bullets, using Hoppes, if you do a quick brush, a soak with solvent, followed by a quick brush, you wind up pushing out slivers of lead if you use a jag. Saves you a lot of brushing.
