Njbanshee 9 Posted January 7, 2014 I was on gun broker the other day and noticed a m44 with a buy it now of $100. And as a kicker it was around the corner from my house. Couple clicks and I bought it. I get the phone call and 45 min. Later I'm looking it over. I turned out to be a type 53. I didn't even say anything, cause for $100 I'd take that too. I show it to a friend and points out no import marks. Looks like I might have a Vietnam bring back. It has the 26 in a triangle, and was made in 1960. I know, I will post pics tomorrow. RecessedFilter 222 Posted January 7, 2014 Nice pick up! Love those types of finds. Let's see some pics. Matching numbers? Hows the bore?
Njbanshee 9 Posted January 7, 2014 Numbers match except the bolt. Rifling is good, but the barrel is a little frosty. I'm gonna clean it out and see what we got. The bolt functions so smooth, and it's got a crazy light trigger. If it could talk!

It could be a bringback but there is no real way to prove it is a bringback if it doesn't have one of the three papers with it.
bhunted 887 Posted January 7, 2014 Maybe this will help... http://www.mosinnagant.net/global%20mosin%20nagants/Chinese-T53Carbine.asp
Njbanshee 9 Posted January 7, 2014 I understand that it's not 100% Vietnam bring back. It doesn't have the papers, but it "could" be. If it wasn't Vietnam it could have been in A number of other conflicts. It could have been in multiple. The unknown factor is cool to me. That is why I said, I wish it could talk. If you think about what this rifle has been through and where it's been is amazing. The possibilities are endless. On top of that, the bolt is smooth and fast, and the trigger is scary light. Frank Rizzo 59 Posted January 7, 2014 Nice score. I have a couple of T-53's, absolute fun fantastic rifles. My buddy calls it the "Chinese Boomstick". hee hee
Oakridgefirearms 224 Posted January 8, 2014 Did you check the underside of the barrel near the muzzle for import marks? A lot of early imports were marked there with small hard to read lettering before the ATF stopped allowing that. If it's in really nice, rearsenaled condition, it's probably not a bring back. If it's been beat or has decent wear on it, without import marks, it very well could be. I have a MAS 36 that is not referbed and not import marked that I suspect may also be a Vietnam bring back, but have no way to know for sure.
BMWR12 35 Posted January 8, 2014 The under barrel import mark is by far the most desirable when it comes to Mosin Nagants rifles. I have a SVT 40 that is a mismatch with no import or Sa marks. Is it a WW2 bring back? I think it could be but it is probably a Finnish capture that was not marked,
Njbanshee 9 Posted January 10, 2014 Sorry for the delay, but I had to clean her up. A previous owner put some kind of crappy stain all over the stock. Here she is. I don't understand why my pics are always upside down. They are fine on my iPad.
Njbanshee 9 Posted January 11, 2014 No comments on the pics?
ogfarmer 138 Posted January 11, 2014 try and take some better pics, they are so grainy hard to really tell anything about them.
Njbanshee 9 Posted January 11, 2014 Ok, new pics coming soon
Njbanshee 9 Posted January 11, 2014 I took some pictures with the wife's phone. It takes much better pics then my iPad.
Njbanshee 9 Posted January 11, 2014 Just so you can get the full story, here are the pictures from the gunbroker add. The stain was just slopped on. It was just such a shame. I cleaned off the stain and couldn't be happier with what I found underneath it. I think the stocks natural wood is beautiful. I haven't seen many blonde stocks on these rifles. ogfarmer 138 Posted January 11, 2014 that thing has definitely seen its days of corrosive ammo, but still a nice piece of history. I like the wood Au natural
Njbanshee 9 Posted January 11, 2014 I'm not done yet. I'm got some stuff to clean out the barrel a bit. I know it's not gonna fix it, but let's see what it can do. I have a friend that swears by it. Thanks farmer, I like the stock as is too.
ogfarmer 138 Posted January 11, 2014 cant wait to see when your done with it.
RecessedFilter 222 Posted January 13, 2014 For 100 bucks, you would have regretted not picking it up haha. Although I never suggest refinishing milsurps, I would have chose one with a better bore if I was going through the refinishing process. But who knows, you could clean it up a bit and it could shoot pretty good. Or it could shoot like shit. And if so, it'll turn into a future wall-hanger. As long as your happy with it, that's all that counts!
Njbanshee 9 Posted January 13, 2014 For $100 I couldn't pass it up. I'm not going to do any major to the barrel. Just a really good cleaning.
RecessedFilter 222 Posted January 14, 2014 If I had pictures of it, I'd post one of my all factory stamped matching T53. No papers for it but I have no doubt it was a bring back due to the story behind it.
Njbanshee 9 Posted January 14, 2014 Well get some pics.......mine is matching except the bolt. I've had several people look it over and all agree it most likely is a Vietnam bring back.
