LINCOLN TUNNEL CHALLENGE 5K

 

The Lincoln Tunnel Challenge 5K is one of the only races you will ever run underwater. The 5K (3.1 mile) road race starts on the New Jersey side of the Lincoln Tunnel using the south tube to New York and returns back to the finish line on the New Jersey side. This is a Grand Prix 500 point USATF sactioned event.

 

Special Olympics New Jersey is a non-profit organization that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities throughout the state. More than 23,000 athletes enjoy camaraderie and gain a sense of pride and accomplishment through participating in these events.

 

I'll be there with a large group of people.

I did it in the past. Tough run. you dont realize how uphill the tunnel is. Dont worry..I will keep is safe for ya

The run has a total ascent of 164.04 ft and has a maximum elevation of 160.76 ft.

 

That's 16 stories spread out over 3/4 mile (give or take).

i.e. they loosen all that soot up real nice so you can carry it out of the tunnel in your lungs saving them the trouble. Lol

Ran it two years ago, the air is just fine in the tunnel.  I agree that the ascent is rough, its very noticeable especially closer to the end.  I remember feeling like I was running hills as I crossed the finish.
