Lavid2002 1 Posted April 16, 2009 How would someone go about a firearms transfer in NJ?
Maksim 1,504 Posted April 16, 2009  within state or interstate? long gun or handgun? interstate, needs FFL. if within state... for long guns, certificate of eligibility from the nj state police website. for handguns, you need pistol permit still. on the bottom, you use a different box, for person to person, rather than from FFL. Seller keeps copy, you keep copy, seller sends a copy to state police, and copy to your local pd.
Lavid2002 1 Posted April 16, 2009 Whoops forgot the specifics. One shotgun, and two three rifles. In-family transaction. Both live in NJ.
Maksim 1,504 Posted April 16, 2009 Look up the nj state police website, go to firearms section, just fill out certificate of eligibility, 2 copies for each. one copy for each buyer and seller. And make sure obviously you are legal to otherwise posess a firearm, 18+ with FID and firearms are legal.
rscalzo 3 Posted April 16, 2009 Keep the copies in a secure location. I have a copy of every transfer for the last 20 years. Even up here I have a Bill of Sale made up on a simple form on my computer.

flyingcowofdoom 0 Posted April 22, 2009 So, if my father has some antique handguns he wants to give to me, I need to have an FID and a Pistol Purchase Permit for each one? Does my father need an FID? --FCOD
Maksim 1,504 Posted April 22, 2009 My understand, any handguns in NJ need Pistol Permit & FID. Will defer to someone else on this one if there is any exception.
KpdPipes 388 Posted April 22, 2009 So, if my father has some antique handguns he wants to give to me, I need to have an FID and a Pistol Purchase Permit for each one? Does my father need an FID? --FCOD Depends on what you consider "Antique" to be. AFAIK unless you're talking about Pre-1900 that shoots non-fixed ammunition, or some the the VERY early cartridge firearms that they dontr even produce ammunition for, you'll need the permits. When i get a chance i'll dig out my 2C book and get the state's definitinon of "Antique" Oh and for the record, modern replicas of classic firearms, whether muzzle loader or cap-and-ball ARE considered firearms in NJ. rscalzo 3 Posted April 22, 2009 Pistol Permit & FID Well yes but you can't get a PP without the FID card as that has the SBI number on it.
