I'm very glad it got addressed. Thank you for allowing that to get brought to the open forum. I wish the actual people involved could have responded as well. Of course! Part of our mission is about bringing members of the community together. It certainly would have made for more of an exchange. Those that lobbed those bombs have been invited numerous times over the years. However, they clearly indicated that they would need to have the conference operate "under" their "banner" to "protect their brand". The conference is specifically not owned by any group so that all groups might be encouraged to participate. Their lack of participation has been their choice, no one else's.

NJ2AS fractured when some people falsely accused its founder of stealing money or foul language or something, and then also complained about them not doing enough for CCW. Some bunch of them formed another group, which put up a website and was never heard from again. There may have been some fighting on Facebook about it, if dim memory serves. Roubian eventually became head of NJ2AS and it is what it is today. Some good, some bad. NJCSD imploded some time ago. CNJFO is completely separate group which seems to have competent leadership. ANJRPC is supposedly the best connected, but again, they blew their credibility as far as I am concerned when they trumpeted Christie's slight relaxation (if it even is) of the threat rule for CCW as some huge victory. I have yet to see/hear of some increase in approved CCW apps as a result of this 'victory'. As far as ANJRPC pressuring Christie to veto the Democrats Hate Crimes against Gun Owners bills of 2013, he was going to run for the Republican nomination for pres in 2016, so he couldn't very well sign them. NAGR and GOA and SAF dont pay much heed or even organize in NJ as far as I know. NJOA endorsed Sweeney and regularly endorses Democrats, who really do hate you personally for owning firearms in NJ, so you know where the fudds stand.

Just wanted to wrap up this thread with my "range report". I put it in quotes because it's not a detailed report from some experienced shooter, just a summary of my experience. I went to Garden State Shooting Center in Lakewood for the first time and had a great experience. The facility was nice and clean, the staff was nice. I didn't detect the aloof, arrogance that I've sometimes experienced at TTC. The facility was simply nicer than Shore Shot which is just down the road. So I brought my new Sig 1911 Tacops (of course) and my CZ (I have plenty of 9mm and like to get in practice with it). I shot what was remaining of the Blazer Brass 230 grain .45 cap from Heritage in Easton (when I tried out all the .45s) and some Federal (white box) which I had picked up the day before. I put about 100 rounds through the Tacops when all was said and done. I had no failures of any kind. The gun felt even better in my hands than the Emperor Scorpion and was very accurate right out of the box. The recoil was pretty soft and very manageable. I rotated all 4 magazines that it came with and had no issues whatsoever. I love how the gun looked, felt, and shot. I can't really say a bad thing about it to be honest. Thank God for the internet because it really allows one to do a lot of research (reviews, forums, videos) before making a purchase. I couldn't be happier about my 1st 3 guns: CZ 75 SP-01 9mm S&W 686+ 4" .357 magnum Sig Sauer 1911 Tacops .45 I feel like I've got quality and variety in my collection. Most importantly, they all feel good to me when I shoot them and they're all considered reliable, accurate handguns. Everybody has got their preferences. I have found that I prefer the feel of a larger, heavier, all metal gun (however, I still may consider a polymer gun in the future since I did enjoy shooting some of those). I also happen to be a pretty big guy with large hands, so these guns may not be for everyone. I am 45 and realize that larger, brighter, more visible sights may be in my future since I have to really focus to see my sights. I definitely can see them, but it would probably be easier with other types of sights. That's just a possible change I might make in the future. Thank you again everyone. All of your input was greatly appreciated. Hopefully this thread will help others make a decision if they find themselves trying to figure out which gun to buy next.

Well, in all fairness, 3 of them were all at the same conference and we didn't see any of this: There was even some sportsman's association there --- so, a 4th group --- still no discernable squabbling at all! They all seemed to be in agreement from what I could see. I'm still trying to figure this all out, quite frankly. But, my sneaking suspicion is this: NJ2AS is great at flame-throwing.... and that can be both really good and really bad. For instance, that video they did about the NJ pol who's against tasers... (but oh yeah... he was indicted TWICE for stalking 2 different women)... that was bloody freaking genius! When you call out the hypocrisy of anti-self-defense politicians like that, I'm all for it. But when NJ2AS is flaming the other NJ2A groups?... I'm just not seeing the purpose in that. Maybe they should all focus on what they seem most well-suited for? NJ2AS can continue to expose and call out the hypocrisy of these dirty politicians, NRA/ANJRPC can continue to focus on quiet, behind the doors lobbying (but harnessing more NRA support behind NJ lawsuits, etc.), and CNJFO can focus on their efforts to pull more NJ residents into the shooting sports, and trying to get NJ hunters more activated, etc. Obviously, there's always going to be SOME overlap... but it seems to me things would work better if they all would "stay in their own lanes" most of the time... and give each other a "heads up" when they're leaving their lane in case coordination would be useful. This "eating our own" is not appropriate IMO, ever. On a positive note, at least the SAFE Conference provides a venue for these groups to come together. It would be nice if they all showed up next year... and maybe had some kind of separate strategy meeting later that evening?

True, having only been exposed to guns for less than 2 years, I haven't seen all that some of you have seen... haven't experienced all of your understandable legislative disappointments. That said, in my career, I have worked with several non-profits both large and small and I feel I have a handle on how they're staffed (can you say "shoestring?"), what they can accomplish by themselves, and what they can't. From my perspective, if you're "waiting" for the NRA or ANJRPC to do something that will knock your socks off - you're already dead in the water. Grassroots organizations thrive and succeed when their membership is large, fully engaged, responsive and downright feisty - it's the members that do the heavy lifting - always! As someone else noted, the NRA sends you alerts - making it abundantly easy to make yourself heard by legislators. But, how many of you actually send the email? How many of you actively participate in campaigning for 2A candidates (even informally, amongst your own social circle)? How many of you make it a personal goal to regularly bring guests to the range? How many of you signed up for the conference? (One benefit was hearing about other activities to steer your guests to). I've no doubt some of you do all of that and more. I also have a sneaking suspicion that some of you who complain the loudest do none of those things! There's an estimated 800,000 to 1 mill gun owners in NJ. How many do you think are ACTIVELY engaged in 2A issues? I'm guessing it's no more than a few percent, if that. That's your problem right there IMO. The problem isn't that on occasion some of these orgs will disagree on the best approach to a particular issue. Stop blaming the non-profit orgs... and blame the gun owners who either refuse to join - or - they join but then wash their hands of responsibility because they think sending in the membership fee was "enough" personal sacrifice and so they don't pull their weight in any other meaningful way. Honestly, I think every soldier in the history of this country that died protecting our rights must be rolling over in his grave to see how those rights are being encroached upon today... and how unwilling we are to really fight to save them.
