  1. I used it to whip down the gun. It was white when I started and it turned black when I finished. I emailed Mossberg for a DOB on her. Same year as me, 1980. We are twins.
  2. A literal battlefield pickup. An older Mossberg 500ATP. This was an import that had seen some hard use in either a prison, a squad car or something. It was locked up, broken safety, extension tube was frozen and the barrel would not come out. A can of gun scrubber, toothbrush and an old sock freed the action, barrel and extension tube. A new safety was just installed and now I need a function check. Mossberg > Remington All day long
  3. You should consider another pistol caliber to supplement your existing arsenal. If, for whatever reason, 9mm is all but gone you are stuck with 9mm. A 45acp or 40S&W (even 357 Sig) pistol and spare magazines with at least 500 rounds is an excellent back up plan.
  4. Mossberg 500, bore snake, hoppes #9 oil, old sock, a case of birdshot to practice and 25 rounds of 00 buck will cost about 600 clams.
  5. As @High Exposure and @vladtepes said, recoil is definitely a determining factor in the 9mm vs 40S&W debate. What gets me is the same clowns that shit on 40S&W also love 10mm. Which is basically a 40S&W +P in most factory loadings and 40S&W almost +P in the rest.
  6. "You mean I can't buy a gun online and ship it to my house?" "Why do you need references, I don't want people to know I am buying a gun." "Why does this take 3 months, I never committed a crime?" "It's easier to buy a brand new car off the lot than to get this permit."
  7. I am scratching my head at this thread, your posts and your options. I would avoid the "less than ideal" choices you laid out. I would simply buy a pump shotgun in 12 gauge and roll with that. And since you are a southpaw like me, get a Mossberg 500. Ambi controls. Cheap ammo, reliable, easy to maintain and simple to learn. Plus 12 gauge is king for home defense. All other calibers fall short.
  8. There is no longer a significant cost from 40 to 9. Those days are over. But, when going up to 45acp the distance is greater.
  9. Honestly, there are no advantages to "upgrading" your follower. The only time I would suggest doing it is because: A. You want a hi-viz follower so you can see clearly if the gun is empty. B. Your existing follower is damaged, missing or broken. C. Because you want to be cool, like me.
  10. The only time I say to avoid 40S&W is in sub compacts or micro guns. They are not pleasant to shoot. But in duty sized firearms, the 40 is an excellent option.
  11. Technically, ammunition is an excellent commodity to keep on hand. As apposed to precious metals and paper money, ammunition will NEVER be worth zero.
  12. Where would the line be drawn? Because to me, anything south of Rahway is south Jersey.
  13. Yes, even now more than ever. The price has come down to almost the same price as 9mm. Also, it technically is better than 9mm. Albeit minimally. And now with 9mm being gobbled up (along with 223/556) another caliber in your arsenal is a good thing. Just like having another defensive rifle caliber that is NOT in 223/556. So, buy a 40 S&W police trade-in Glock/S&W on the cheap and stock up on ammo.
  14. @Krdshrk, please lock. I am getting spam emails.
  15. Get odd ball cartridges and stock up on them. i.e, 357 Sig, 10mm, 327 Federal Magnum. Then buy a gun in those calibers. Done
  16. I agree on some of what you said. The animal has become a status symbol. Some people buy them because they ARE mean and aggressive. And breed them to be that way. Living in an urban city, I see the worst kind. I know how you feel about animals, and I understand. I respect that. But, we live in different worlds and my view isn't the same as yours. Seeing these dogs on thick chains and yanking some 110 lb hood rat around the park and barking at everything gets old quick.
  17. Buy low, sell high If you're buying bulk ammo or an AR15 you didn't plan things out.
  18. Maybe if the Democrats in the House and Senate weren't so caught up in "impeach 45" there would have been more of a heads up.
  19. They just closed the schools for two weeks here in Bayonne, an influx of pandemonia ensued at the local Walmart. There is literally no food on the shelves. And forget TP or PT. Amazing
  20. How about a real gun @Malsua!?! Jk
  21. A man in your present state and condition should not be going to large gatherings.
