  1. I like the range at BA better, but the selection at SS. Personally I'm not sure I'd buy guns from either one because their prices are very out of wack, on ammo and firearms. I can usually save a $100 AFTER transfer/nic's fee's buying somewhere else, sometimes significantly more. The guys working at SS are decent folk, they just get slammed by newbies on a regular basis and makes them irritable. BA doesn't have that problem as much, and I find the guys there more relaxed because of it. I think what tends to happen is newb go to SS, sometimes become members. Once you get tired of the newbs and lines, you switch to BA.
  2. There's reasonable and then ridiculous. Lots of the local places here are charging $850+ on the Ruger 1911 and Magnum Research one. That's insane considering the rest of the country is buying them up at $650.
  3. Women are victims of crime in this state all the time that guns could have stopped. The problem is they are too busy blaming the guns criminals have access, to realize that if the woman was armed she could have protected herself. New Jersians seem to be under the impression that if they JUST make the laws super tough, criminals will not be able to get guns.
  4. I hear he's having a rocky time in Florida now, maybe we could get him up here? May 1, 2012 The Honorable Bob Buckhorn Office of Mayor Bob Buckhorn 315 East Kennedy Blvd., 5″‘ Floor Tampa, Florida 33602 Dear Mayor Buckhorn, Allow me to take this opportunity to reply to your letter of May 1, 2012, requesting that I “exercise the powers vested in [me] by the Constitution and the laws of the State of Florida and issue an executive order prohibiting the transportation of firearms in Downtown Tampa during the [Republican National Convention]/’ My understanding is that the current security plan will ban firearms in the convention center itself, as well as in an immediately adjacent ”safe zone” established by the Secret Service. You are now requesting that citizens be disarmed in all of downtown Tampa, including in areas across the river, and distant, from the convention center and Secret Service safe zone. The short answer to your request is found in the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution and in Article 1, Section 8 of the Florida Constitution. These provisions guarantee that the government may not infringe the people’s right “to keep and bear arms.” The United States Supreme Court has explained that those rights have real force, and that government bans on firearms are generally impermissible. While the government may enforce longstanding prohibitions on the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, an absolute ban on possession in entire neighborhoods and regions would surely violate the 2nd Amendment. You note that the City’s temporary ordinance regulates “sticks, poles, and water guns,” but that firearms are a ’’noticeable item missing from the City’s temporary ordinance.” Firearms are noticeably included, however, in the 2nd Amendment. The choice to allow the government to ban sticks and poles, but not firearms, is one that the People made in enacting their state and federal constitutions. Like you, I share the concern that ”violent anti-government protests or other civil unrest” can pose ”dangers” and the ”threat of substantial injury or harm to Florida residents and visitors to the State.” But it is unclear how disarming law-abiding citizens would better protect them from the dangers and threats posed by those who would flout the law. It is at just such times that the constitutional right to self defense is most precious and must be protected from government overreach. I am confident that the many federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies focused on the RNC will fully protect Floridians and visitors, without the need to resort to sweeping infringements on our most sacred constitutional traditions. We have had political conventions in this country since the dawn of the Republic. They are an essential means of furthering our constitutional rights to free speech and to vote. Our fundamental right to keep and bear arms has coexisted with those freedoms for just as long, and I see no reason to depart from that tradition this year. Sincerely, Rick Scott Governo
  5. www.nj2as.org I'm the grumpiest and least optimistic sob on the planet, and I joined. They might be the only shot we have at the rate this state does things.
  6. I'm getting a kick out people saying to contact the state police. THEY DON'T CARE. I've contacted them, so have my brother and sister in law over Red Bank's policies. Their exact words were "Not our problem, take it up with a lawyer".
  7. Some people call that "Thinking ahead"
  8. Your chances are slim to none honestly. You MIGHT get a limited carry license, but doubt it. If you were a bank security guard you'd probably be able to get a conditional "only at work" license.
  9. NJM I have had 3 claims in 10 years, all was excellent. I've had 3 tickets in 10 years, no biggie there either. I price shopped this year before renewing, they were the best price or equal.
  10. Basically, just assume that the cops are ignorant of the law and carry your FID. Because chances are they'll just assume you're breaking the law no matter what. They've been trained that any person without a badge that owns a gun is evil, just accept it and move on.
  11. Personally I like TD Bank (formerly commerce). They bend over backwards to help me when I have a question or issue.
  12. Looks like they updated their site to "Not excepting new applications"
  13. Meh, it's $20 an hour on the weekends at Shore Shot so I'd it's par for the course.
  14. Shore Shot's ammo prices are a crime against humanity. I was a Brick armory Sunday, I could have sworn they had an XDM in the case for sale.
  15. My Shore Shot membership expired a couple of days ago, I'm thinking of heading to Brick Armory tonight or tomorrow for a membership. I'm looking at getting a couple of rifles this year and I don't want to deal with frangible crap.
  16. No, you do not need a FID to own or inherit a gun in NJ contrary to popular belief. You WILL need one to BUY a gun or ammo in NJ. Have the gun carefully checked out before you fire it.
  17. Did you guys catch the statement that in other states you can buy firearms right off the interwebs and not have to do any background checks? Where do they get this crap!
  18. I had a similar run around in 2009 when I bought my p226 from them. I'll never ORDER a gun from them, EVER. Use the range however, certainly. Buy a gun that is instock, sure why not. I need to check and find out what they charge for transfers if I buy something from Buds or whatever. I'm really annoyed with SS these days.
  19. You guys realize your replying to posts a year and half old right?
  20. Well, can't say I'm surprised by this turn of events. Shore Shot has never really given much thought to how their actions effect their customers, given the slipshod manner in which they make policy changes. I was already planning to get a membership at Brick Armory instead of Shore Shot so I guess I made the right decision. I can't really blame them for pulling out of here though. If you did a search on shore shot the info on this board would pop up on google and it could discourage customers for trying them, considering all the BS they've been pulling lately. I'm sure my post on how they were ripping people off on how much they overcharged on ammo didn't help. Not mention all the posts on overcrowding. Given it was the TRUTH, but for them it makes their business look bad. In that context it makes sense for them to pull out of here. Admittedly a GOOD standup business would address the issues, not ignore them and blow off the board in a huff... but I've stopped expecting much out of SS. My feeling is this board helped them grow their business, and now they feel they no longer need it. Brick Armory did the same thing, and their clientel took a serious dip after we all bailed on them and recommended SS. I'm betting the same will hold true again just in the opposite direction. I like the guys who work at BA better anyway, I just got annoyed over the run around I got on my sig order and SS was cheaper to join.
  21. I buy from CTD all the time, they've never given me a hassle about ammo shipping.
  22. Except your wrong about the Woollard case deciding anything. It's already being appealed, and AT BEST you're looking at another 2 years working its way through the courts before it comes up to the Supreme Court. Lower court rulings have about as much effect as peeing in a river, it makes you feel good until you realize you still need to cross it.
  23. Most people thought after The District of Columbia vs Heller things in DC would improve, but from all accounts it's still as restrictive and painful as ever. Can you have a handgun in DC now, sure! Problem in there's only one guy in the district licensed to do the transfer and he's only there once in a blue moon, and no gun shops to buy from. And they have no plans to allow anyone to open any gunshops either. So is it technically legal, yes. They just put up a ton of road blocks and effectively kill it that way instead. Just because Scotus makes a ruling, doesn't mean it goes into effect. There are plenty of loopholes that politicians use when it suits them. And NJ has proven time again that even when someone is obeying the law TO THE LETTER, they have no problems attempting prosecution as an object lesson to frighten people in not doing something. How many times have we not done something that happens to be legal in this state because we were afraid of the expense and hassle it incurs to exercise our rights against a hostile state government? How many times have we told people to just avoid this state altogether if they are transporting a firearm to one state to another? NJ has done a great job in convincing the general population guns are bad and therefore you shouldn't have one.
