  1. I dont hate all cops. I dont hate most cops. I dont hate you, or any of the cops on here. Here comes the tired internet line "I have friends who are ___________, in this case LEO" They are absolutely no different from me, other than they get to carry a gun daily. And point me to my tough talk please. I've gotten pretty far in life without having to be 'saved' by anyone. But if I did, the fact I pay taxes, property and otherwise, gives me the luxury of requesting a first responder in good concience. You are taking it personal becasue I criticized members of your profession. Your s/n is Blue Line, I get it. You are proud of your profession. But its not about you. Its about guys like the Ohio CCW cop, and in my opinion, these two guys. Its about this incident and others like it. I shouldve qualified all this from the gate. But yes, we can all move on now. Everyone got their shots in.
  2. Presumably in your hypothetical scenario, I'm a regular guy at my local fast food place with my family, Im lucky enough to CCW, and unlucky enough to run across this guy who raises a pipe bender to my head. Yes, Im absolutely shooting him. But what actually happened, was these are TWO trained LEO, with nonlethal options, a k9, no potential victim in immediate jeapordy, and what appears to be a decent amount of time to possibly have set up their positions a bit more tactically so that their best option wasnt 10 rounds point blank against a dude with no gun. Im not going to defend my position anymore. I realize Im in the minority, and many of you appear ok with this kind of policing in your community. If I offended anyone with my initial comments that I deleted, than I apologize. They were deleted for a reason.
  3. Yes, I did indeed write F pigs. I deleted it once I realized that Im in the minority here, seeing as everyone was pretty stoked to watch this guy get lit up by 8-10 shots, half of which were on his way down. Where did the rest of those shots go? Bet they all didnt land where they were supposed to. What about the public at large, yknow, who these guys get paid well to protect and serve? Were they best served by these cops lighting up the street to take down some guy at point blank distance when they had other tools at their disposal? Yes, I agree that it looks like they 'tried' pepper spray or whatever. Maybe if they didnt suck at their jobs they couldve taken this guy down without 10 rounds at point blank range. It seemed excessive, especially when cop #2 opened up. Yes, I agree that I wasn't there blah blah. This video has 4 pages of hindsight analysis but mine is "wrong"? Lunatic cops are just as scary as punks with crowbars. Worse. Ohio CCW video? Whatever, its just my opinion. Im the only one here who ever made a blanket statement about a group of people based on the bad actions of a few? Get real.
  4. Let's talk about how we don't get one fackin guest pass for our money either. Not one. That's how new shooters get introduced by the way. I've taken at least 3 different people up there since 09. One is now a gun owner, and the other is looking into the permit process. I've said it before, but there's almost no benefit for me to take someone to my home range, where I pay annual membership fees, rather than RTSP. Total bs.
  5. Man. This would've been my ideal pickup. I was in the market for one a few months back, and wound up picking up the Bersa Thunder 22. Great gun, but only with minimags so far. Everything else, not so much. If what redneck santa said is true, the SR22 works with the bulk packs too. It looks just like a p22. I wonder if ruger is really making it themselves.
  6. Last I checked, the work weekend offered a laughably nominal reduction in your yearly fees, totally disproportionate to the time invested.
  7. Oh look. Theres some room on top of this pile. Think I'll jump right in. Why cant they throw us a couple guest passes to go along with our memberships? Seriously. For the $25.00 its gonna cost me to bring one of my boys or wifey too an outing at Cherry Ridge, I can splurge another 5 bucks and bring that person to RTSP for an hour instead, without a membership. Theres something seriously wrong with that. And no, I dont need a family membership for the 2x a year thats going to happen, although with the price of guest passes I might as well. Thats super lame, and really makes me pissed that I even re-upped my membershit for 2012.
  8. Looks good. I applaud you for being able to take the plunge. I had one in my hand shortly before picking up my used 617. The example I held had a hammer that looked off center, and had a craaaaaaaaaazy heavy trigger. Heres the rub. My 617 doesn't have a great trigger either. Single action is appropriately crisp, but DA is also heavy, but fairly smooth once you get it started rearward. I cant imagine the taurus being much heavier. Post some groups.
  9. I like the place. I just think it sucks shooting indoors next to the guy with either the 12 gauge or AR. Yeah I get it. It's a gun range. But other than finding out your weapon works, what is it going to tell you to shoot a rifle at 25 yards? Congratulations, you just made a lot of noise and learned nothing about how your weapon groups at realistic rifle range distances. So now that we established you're not really here to practice shooting, you should stay home and light m80s in your garage with the door closed.
  10. Appreciate the responses. Trying to convice "santa" I need an electric thrower now.
  11. I have been a member there for a few years, but don't know how the shotgun range works. I'd like to shoot some clays there. I know I have to bring my own launcher. Questions: Is there such thing as a cheap launcher that I can throw clays to myself? Is it a p.i.t.a to mount to the table? Is one of those NEF/Pardner pumps I see at dicks on sale suitable for such an endeavor? I dont have any intentions of hunting anything ever so this would just be for clays. Do you have to clean up after your clays when you are done? Is the shotgun range ever 'crowded'? Thanks for any input.
  12. http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php?/topic/28346-bersa-thunder-22-review/ Heres a review of the Bersa 22, complete with pics. You should consider it as well. Chicks dig it.
  13. Which one of our forum sponsors is going to have this in stock? .40 plz.
  14. I just made a transfer, new pistol from Buds at: Lincoln Park True Value Hardware $40 total, included nics. That was the best price in and around the Morris County area that I could find.
  15. As to fit, I would say impressive. The frame to slide looks tight as does the slide to barrel. Enough that I would say this gun probably requires being run a bit wetter than most. After about 100 rounds or so I could hear & feel the powder residue and rimfire crud when I racked the slide. It did not affect function, at least not between 100-150 rounds. As to finish, time will tell. I can see mild finish wear on the rear slide rail, hammer and top of beavertail where the hammer falls back. I believe its safe to say I will teach myself how to duracoat using this pistol. I dont know how widespread it is, but I read some things on bersa chat about some finish issues with the nickel models, specifically that the nickel coating on the barrels. Ammonia based (hoppes)cleaners may have had somethign to do with it. Yes, it looks much like a PPK as the pictures show.
  16. Is it still a secret where this place is? I would love to join an indoor range, and my Cherry Ridge lapses in December. The price is sort of high, but I'm interested. I'd love to know what I'm signing up for. Can someone PM me if you know?
  17. People fear what they don't understand and hate what they can't conquer.
  18. I've already been banned from bersa chat. The first sleeve of minimags I ran through it were HP's and they fed fine, every one of them. I wont even think about messing with it until I have problems. So far, I only had an hitch during feeding when I rode the slide home on the first round instead of using the slide stop release. The actual feeding during firing was flawless.
  19. I had been debating a 22. semi purchase for some time. Like many, I considered the gsg/sig 1911, ruger mk111/22/45, and s&w m&p 22. When all was said and done I just wanted something to punch paper and do cheap double taps and mag dumps fairly accurately. If I want to slowly make 25 yard bullseye shots, first I'll learn to shoot, than I'll pull out my 617-1. I paid 300 OTD, delivered from Buds to Lincoln Park True Value for $40 transfer total plus $260 for the gun. Out of the box the fit and finish looked great for a $260 gun. Includes one 10 rd mag, $30 each extra around the web, when available. Ive shot approx 200 minimags out of it since then, and one solitary magazine of some random bulk pack federal "high velocity". All rounds fed, ignited, and ejected flawlessly. I was super surprised the federal bulk worked fine, although it was labeled high velocity. I thought this gun would be minimags or better only. Too early to tell but that was a promising sign. The pin strikes seemed lighter than my 22/45 and 617, but no problems at all. Rear sight appears adjustable for windage. The gun is equipped with a safety/decocker. Once you decock the hammer on a chambered round, the trigger is disabled until you disengage the safety. It does not drop direct to a double action first pull. I haven't been shooting long, but I would say the gun has paper plate accuracy out to 25 yards easy, and at 15 yards I was able to put an entire magazine into about a 3 inch circle offhand. The rest of the groups below were double taps and rapid fire strings. This was the only target I thought to bring home today. All in all super stoked for the money.
  20. How is a NICS/point of sale check not required on a personal sale but is on an FFL sale? I'm looking at my own permit here and see the section for individual sellers to fill out. I want to put something up in classifieds but am a bit wary of f2f sales as I always just assumed that private sellers went to an ffl to do transfers, and just paid for the NICS check and transfer fee. Not true?
  21. My nightstand piece is an SP101, loaded with 38+p. The GP is equally as awesome. Im a believer in the simplicity/safety of a DA revolver for HD. For times you are handling the loaded gun in a scenario where you dont actually intend to defend yourself, it's easier to tell the status of a revolver, and more difficult to fire the weapon unintentionally than a typical semi auto. That, plus the 38/357 versatility etc. Go for it.
  22. Thats pretty much it. I figure any of the choices will improve my overall pistol skills, but Im not one of those people who think that .22 is just a trainer for real guns. Its just another caliber choice, except it happens to be cheap and versatile. I <3 .22 Im gonna make the rounds this week. The shops that are in my radius would be Silver Bullet, Meltzers, Ramsey Outdoor, and Bullet Hole. Im trying to support forum vendors but everyone is down south jersey.
