  1. If you can swing down to Flatonia Tx, hit Joel's BBQ off of I-10. You'll see signs for it. Best brisket I've ever had. In Dallas, I like Sonny Bryan's. Great brisket, ribs are out of this world. I can't think of the name of the place my wife likes in Austin, but I'll ask her if she remembers.
  2. As a Texan, and BBQ fanatic, Hill Country's brisket is pretty damn good (coughcoughminesbettercoughcough). Lol. My wife loves their smoked prime rib. She's a Yankee girl, but she has good taste in BBQ. I have heard that John Browns is decent, but I haven't tried it personally. I will check it out next time I'm out that way. Same with Dinosaur BBQ. I never heard of that place before, but I'm anxious to try it! Now y'all have me thinking about firing up the smoker and mixing up some of my dry rub! I imagine my neighbors would think I was nuts if I smoked a brisket in a snowstorm.
  3. Also my views. I see less and less difference between Republicans and Democrats these days. We need to rise up and remove these people from office. They are destroying this state, our country, and our way of life.
  4. BBC is usually pretty good. They don't always say very positive things about the US, however, they are pretty objective. Fox News, Drudge Report. I usually compare several news agencies and sift through them, the facts are usually in there.
  5. I don't know why you would have buyers remorse over the DD. If it doesn't suit your purpose, buy or build another upper for it....2 rifles in one! That's the beauty of the AR!
  6. I prefer 1/7 twist. Will eat everything you throw at it, even the long, 77grain OTM's for when you really need to reach out and touch someone. Although I do have quite a bit of success at 5-600 yards with M855 ball through my ACOG equipped Colt 6940. I find that round is fairly accurate at that range, much better than I expected it to be. In any case, I believe 1.7 twist is the way to go. Simply gives you more ammunition options.
  7. 5.56 is more than enough for hogs. I've killed dozens with it, they have dropped like a stone.
  8. I have several carbines, but I am most partial to my 20" A4, that I affectionately refer to as 'the musket'. Soft shooting, smooth, and accurate, I love this rifle!! I believe every AR owner should have a 20" rifle in their stable, either A2 or A4...or better yet, one of each. 5.56mm, of course. If you don't have one, consider building one as your next project. BCM/PSA both have nice barrels (Mine has a PSA CHF barrel made by FN).
  9. Snopes, and a couple of other sources, say its B.S. Internet folklore. Still a creepy pic.
  10. I think it's required to own a gun in Fl. Manditory in Tx! Lol
  11. I have the proof plate of that logo. Makes a nice piece on my desk.
  12. I'm a Colt guy, but between DD and BCM, take the DD.
  13. The Holiday Inn I'm at is almost $400/night including taxes and parking. That's just a regular room. Glad it's not my nickle. It's insane to stay in DC....
  14. There was a logo that was engraved on some AR-15 lowers for the forum. I won the 'proof plate' in an auction for Wounded Warrior a couple of years ago. It's on my desk at home. When I get back in town, I'll take a pic of it for you. You also may be able to find it in the AR section of the forums.
  15. I'm actually in DC at the moment, on business. Crazy town. We did a family reunion trip last fall, and had a great time. It took us 4 days just to cover about 1/2 of the museums. I loved the air and space museum, as well as the natural history museum. The air/space annex at the airport is NOT to be missed. Don't miss the Mint. I didn't make the national firearms museum, but going to try to squeeze that in this week while I'm here. We went 'touristy', and bought tix to the tour buses (can't remember the name of it, but I'll find out today). They shuttle you all around the interesting areas, while keeping you free of the places you don't want to go to. Expensive when compared to the Metro, but saves time, because it only takes you to the museums/monuments/tourist areas. Besides, I'm a country boy and suck at deciphering bus and train schedules to get around this city. Many good places to eat. The Capitol Brewery comes to mind, as well as Sweet Georgia Browns. We also went to a few places on the 'Diners, Drive In's, and Dives' show. Simply awesome. We stayed at the Grand Hyatt, nice hotel, and close to pretty much everything. It was pricey, but worth it. I am at the Holiday Inn today, about a block from the Capitol. Hotel is ok....but expensive for what it is. It Is close to where I need to be for my job, though. I'm working at the Library of Congress this week, walking distance from the hotel. One of my colleagues stays in either Arlington or Georgetown when he comes here, and cabs it to various client sites. He finds it easier. I may do that my next business trip down here. Enjoy your trip. You will find you need more time to take in everything here.
  16. Another vote for the BCM mod 3. I have these on all my AR's.
  17. It also comes in a clip point version. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002VXO9HO
  18. I have about 100 of the Midwest PX modified Pmags. 100% reliable.
  19. Here lately I've been carrying an Ontario Joe Pardue Utilitac II. I continue to be impressed with this knife. In fact, I bought 2 more, one for my hunting kit, and another for my buddy, who sorely needs a EDC knife. $30 on Amazon. Incredible knife for the $.
  20. The best marine is a SUBMARINE!! Former fast boat sailor. ET1/SS
  21. I won't use anything but Pelican for airline travel. I think I'm up to 6 now....they multiply like AR's. Mine have taken unspeakable abuse at the hands of airline baggage handlers, and me, with absolutely NO damage to a rifle. I even knocked one down a full flight of stairs (my bad), with an optic equipped AR-15 inside...didn't even lose zero. They take a beating and protect whatever it is you stuff inside them. A 1750 sounds like what you need. I bought my last Pelican, a 1720, on Amazon for $189,
  22. These make liberals cry, therefore I MUST have several....
