  1. Lewis & Clarks Air Rifle Gunner | February 22, 2011 at 3:38 pm | Categories: 1911 45's | URL: http://wp.me/p2vhw-9u This rifle was very far ahead of it's time. Imagine in 1803 the expedition had a repeating air rifle that could fire .42 caliber ball ammo 30 times on one charge and penetrate a one inch thick pine board. It took 1500 pumps to fully charge it. Watch the movie and I think you'll be amazed!
  2. Any refferals for a certain recoil pad? (and dont say the one between my legs).
  3. Having just picked up my first(or any large bore rifle) Mosin 91/30 from a fellow Forum member(thanx) I did a little research on corrisive ammo cleaning and saw that same test.Did my own too- just drop a pinch of salt in water and swish it round it of course dissolves. Do it with Hoppes solvent, does nothing to it.Is the salt the same chemically? I figure when it come down to it salt is salt. IMO anything but water just wipes/smears the salts on the barrel lining. I just pour some hot water from my thermos down the pipe, run a dry mop and a quick wipe of Hoppes and take care of it properly at home. But lets face it, this rifle was designed and built to be somewhat abused more than pampered, give the gun a little credit.I somehow dont see all those wartime comrads getting all fussy and lovey dovey with their MN's,snipers excluded. Thats my newbie lecture on that. Next,t my first outing with it I put up 4-8" shoot n c's at 50 yrd. Damn, my eyes suck, sights and target all fuzzy. Maybe a scout scope, but thats another story. So I shoot a quick 15 rnds, was in a hurry for an app't. Not looking good only saw 3-4 on targets. Go to retrieve my target stand and found the rest of the shots just off and touching target in two seperate and very tight groups of 2". Guess the bullets on target were my flyers! Maybe theres hope yet as it was my first time. Yea, my shoulder hurts too. little different than my .22 rifle.
  4. or this-"mind your own business"
  5. Couldn't believe I was actually reading the Record!. Article submission by Stephen Hunter on page A-23 (opinion)stating the obvious(to some)that hi-caps, he actually calls them "extended", mags are actually usefull and not the hand of the Devil . My shock isn't the article but that the Record printed it! Nice breath of fresh air about guns for a change.
  6. I just do it, kinda jump in. Engine swaps when i was just old enough to drive and learned how to change my clutches cause went thru a lot in my "hot rod".Pretty handy with tools, hand built my own house from ground up and had my own little contractor business. With guns being a re-newed interest I have swapped the springs in my GP100, can do field strips on my auto and totally tore down an old 22 rifle and rebuilt it, havent the opportunity for much else yet. As far as technical diagnostics just dumb. Need it in front of me to work it.
  7. Just came across this. Classic Arms auctionong off two "single digit" serial # Mosin Nagants!
  8. My favorite type of dance- much better than ballroom, waltzing or even that weird country line dancing.
  9. Ok so you guys pillaged out the best ones , whats left for the rest of us and where is this secret shop?
  10. Thanx Malsua- I knew it was somewhere just couldn't find it. As for doing the paperwork while he's here on leave I'm not sure, tough to get an appt for the fingerprinting at the copshop and then I believe he needs to follow thru and pick up the papers personally. Really not sure when he will make it back again but I was going to look into that and see how long they will hold it.
  11. So I answer the phone not recognizing the number which we always do now cause it may be our son over in Afghan and yep it was. No "hi, how are ya, whats happening in Jersey" type of greeting but says "dad, i need you to check out some info on getting guns. When I come back I want to pick up a Kimber tactical 45 and a Remmy tactical shotty." 60 seconds later the sattelite phone craps out and that was that! Oh well at least it was him for a minute after 6 weeks of nothin. ANYWAY,afew issues come to mind. He has no FPID card and I dont see that happening with him there and paperwork, fingerprints, etc here. And sure aint gonna happen in the two weeks or so when he gets back in the summer. If I recall there was some previous conversation around the forum that since he is in the Marines he is also considered a legal resident of his home base in North Carolina and thus can purchase a legal handgun and/or long gun there and bring it legally back to NJ as long as it is NJ legal and again, without having a FPID card.He would not be able to purchase any ammo here but... So is that a correct belief on my part? Can some legal eagle point out that in some remote law so I can see it in black and white? And is it ok to keep it here in Nj while he is stationed elsewhere, I'm guessing why not, the only problem is the temptation on my part to use them! He will be 21 by then. How STUPID AND IRONIC is it that a highly trained Marine who makes a living firing hi-power autos, morters, and grenades cant buy a gun in this sad state?!
  12. So who in the Bergen/Passaic maybe Sussex area has a decent selection of these Ruskies for sale?
  13. Right now I feel like Lt. Dan in Forrest Gump when he's up in the crows nest of Forrest's boat IN THE STORM screaming as loud as he can up into the sky-C'MON, IS THAT ALL YOU GOT- BRING IT ON!!!
  14. Considering you've got some stone down already top it with a minimum of 4" QP,a mix of stone dust and gravel and pack it down then a few inches of blacktop. Pavers and concrete are a lot more $. Also keep in mind that oil, grease and gas will stain the pavers and concrete.Feels almost as bad as getting the first dent in your new car after paying so much for the hi-end driveway. Also consider installing any drainage issues before paving such as pipes from guters, drainage grates etc.
  15. Still confused, not that unusual. When looking at Saigas I see a bunch of different manufacturer/importer references- ARI,Arsenal,RAA,Izhmash,Kalishnakov. What the heck is what and how does any of them relate to NJ compliance? Just saw a buncha nib 223's that sold for $275 as a special and the 7.62 is going for $339 however I'm not jumping on one that is"labeled" wrong or is a questionable purchase. Homework was never my thing but gotta do whatever to get it right.
  16. If your getting money back all it means is your giving the gov't an interest free loan with your money cause you paid too much. Some people like that, kind of a forced savings plan but again, no interest. Gonna be an interesting file this year as its the first one we aren't using either of our kids as dependants, we paid practically no interest on our mortgage as its almost done, not much else to write off so that'll free up some discretionary funds soon and that will buy my toys.I hope.
  17. if you haven't already take a look at the handy dandy super duper reference chart in the " NJ Gun Laws" forum. Second pinned post, will give you a quick heads up on basics.
  18. So if I strap a locked case with my rifle in it over my back and jump on my Suzuki cruiser with my ammo in a locked saddle bag am I good to go?
  19. Very sad indeed. Having a son over there now it stabs at the heart even harder. And also having a son there puts us on the casualty notification list. As obviously tragic as the deaths are you may be suprised/sickened at the amount of injuries that goes on as "routine".From ricochet scratches to legs being blown off, burns, pyscological issues.Yea, I know thats what war is but do our guys have to wear ballerina shoes and bend over like they do?And that f'n church doin what they do?! I dont know how the bereving familys and freinds control themselves. Dont know if I would.
  20. Smartest thing i ever did,27 yrs and going strong. Got me to do a U turn on the very wrong path"back in the day".Kinda scary thinking back on what coulda happened.Guess she saw thru my stunning good looks and saw my potential!
  21. Well then you need to wake up and be a little smarter about the words you use. The word "mental" and safe responsible gun ownership do not compliment each other. All you did was raise some eyebrows and do your friend a dis-service.
  22. Does anyone know the bottem line on owning/buying/transferring the 223,7.62 and 308's? Why do some FFL's move em and some don't? I'm talking stock, not converted factory guns. I saw something somewhere that "Kaliznikov" was no good but RAA Saiga was ok, whatever. If i see a good deal and want to jump on it what are my options? Or am i just thinking too much about it. Thanx. Oh yea, feel free to give any recomondations on em.
  23. Go ahead Frank Bumblingberg- write up and pass that bill banning 10+ clips-I for one will follow your law, word for word. And dont forget the photo op holding one, I'd like to see what they look like.
