  1. I was there last night (except for the first few minutes). As others have noted, I had to double-check to make sure I had the right night. I sat in the back wondering if there were other NJGF members there. Frank, perhaps at a future meeting you might ask for a show of hands for NJGF members and posters, as I'm always eager to meet the people with whom I "speak" on this site.
  2. I watched a bit of this for the first time on Sunday night. It looked like there would be just a few minutes of the show, then several minutes of commercial time. Seems like a ratio that would get pretty annoying. Luckily, I had it DVR'd so I was able to FF through the commercials.
  3. I would be willing to bet anyone $100 that we won't see it within the next 10 years (unless it's mandated by a federal decision, and that seems unlikely); and after that, I'll be too old to really care. Oh and BTW, if you want to talk about CC, at the very least you should be a member of and/or a contributor to NRA and NJARPC, and possibly some other groups like NJ2SA.
  4. Any word yet on the projected opening day? God, I feel like Cartman in the South Park episode when he froze himself because he couldn't stand the anticipation of waiting for the new Nintendo Wii to come out. At least he knew what day it was going to happen.
  5. For the record, I have a Glock 34 and I love it! It's my favorite of my five handguns. It's accurate (far more so than I am), fun to shoot, and while it would be tough to conceal, that's hardly an issue here in NJ. Plus, as others have noted, even if you don't totally love it, chances are it's not going to be the last gun you purchase.
  6. Agree totally! "A**hats" is way too kind a word for them. I'm thinking more like "contemptuous SOB's" or "murderous ba*tards." I was going to say that in NJ, those clerks would have been killed; but in fact, one is allowed to keep a firearm at a place of business. I'm considering doing that, but have not yet gotten around to it. Sure hope I do so before it's too late.
  7. It certainly would be good to be able to band with fellow firearms owners in one's neighborhood in the event of a disaster, but I have no idea how to broach the subject in advance without tipping them off that I'm an owner. Any suggestions? Or would you just wait until trouble strikes and see who comes of of their house holding a gun?
  8. Yes, that's my question as well. Went up to CR this afternoon. The schedule said the range would be closed for NRA Day from 9-3. Got up there around 3:30 and was told the range would be closed all day. My first thought was (after, "I wish I had known so I could have saved an hour round trip") "Dammit, when is that new range going to open?" BTW, does anyone else think it's kind of funny that we've gone nearly 20 pages discussing a new range in "West Paterson/Woodland Park," and it's not going to be anywhere near there?
  9. I have used the service to get prices several times, and I like it a lot. I have actually purchased from a NJGF vendor a few of those times. I agree with others who have noted that geography is a concern. It would help if vendors could simply indicate where they are located. Then we could make an informed decision, weighing out the savings vs. the travel. I don't think that would take a major overhaul of the system.
  10. I would second this. I have three .22 caliber rifles, a Ruger 10/22 carbine, a S&W 15-22, and a GSG-522. They are all lots of fun to shoot (and really cheap!), but I think the Ruger is still my favorite, despite the 10 round mags.
  11. I've heard posters on this board speak well of the FFL service at Tru Value hardware in Lincoln Park, but I have not had the opportunity to try them out.
  12. OMG, even though I've seen that before, I still get sweaty palms from watching it. Definitely not a trail I would like to run!
  13. Are you sure that's not wolfsbane, or that rare orchid that Henry Hull was looking for in Werewolf of London? Actually, I thought you were another married guy complaining about your love life.
  14. Good info. Thanks for posting it. Looks like my incumbents in the 40th District are pretty solid.
  15. Malsua, thanks for the report. I was thinking of heading up there today. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the weather is going to cooperate, so I might have to settle for putting in some time at the BH.
  16. I finished the book a few days ago. Looks like there are definitely plans for a series.
  17. Just saw that item in today's Record a little while ago. Amazing how he deliberately makes no distinction between criminals obtaining guns, and the right of responsible citizens to defend themselves.
  18. Has anyone read this book? I'm almost through it, and it's been pretty riveting. Good SHTF scenario, as the U.S. is invaded by a unified Korea. Even includes an EMP. As I read it, I find myself wondering what I would do in various situations. Definitely not Steinbeck or Hemingway, but enjoyable reading, particularly for our crowd. Let me know what you think. http://www.amazon.com/Homefront-Voice-Freedom-John-Milius/dp/0345527151/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1316783823&sr=1-1
  19. This: "If the vehicle does not have a compartment separate from the passenger compartment, the firearm must be in a LOCKED CONTAINER other than the vehicle's glove compartment or console." seems to conflict with this: "Firearms shall be carried unloaded and contained in a closed and fastened case, gunbox, securely tied package, OR locked in the trunk of the automobile in which it is being transported." And yet they are both from the same paragraph! The former says that when transporting in an SUV, the firearms must be in a locked container; yet the latter seems to say that it's OK to have them in some kind of case or wrapper if they are not in the trunk. Can anyone explain this disparity?
  20. I just acquired an M&P 9mm without a safety. My thinking was that since I have a few Glocks, which have no external safety, that I would be comfortable with that arrangement. Plus, to my thinking if I ever faced an HD situation, it would likely be in low light or no light, and I would not want the added burden of trying to figure out whether my safety was on or off. I suppose one could just leave the saftey off all the time, but then what's the point of having it?
