  1. Never shot any subs & hopefully will never have to. I'll ask around, but most guys with Flinters for friends don't come into contact with subs. Coming-out to the Invitational to make smoke with us on the 24th?? Hope to see you there! Dave
  2. You mostly all missed the Boat by not naming Sarah Palin and other famous females. Most of you wrote guys' names. I would love to shoot with Tom Selleck, especially the .45-120 rifle from Quigley Down Under, LOL!
  3. That's just exactly what you do! It's even in the Rule Book! That's why the Match Director has the final say......
  4. All of the above is hereby taken into consideration. So how come somebody couldn't ask the R-O which "IDPA-style" Rules apply and which do not? At the beginning of each Stage the R-O reads the Stage Description off of the clipboard, then usually asks, "does everybody got that?" This WAS an IDPA Match, so reloading from behind cover and not dropping loaded mags would be the NORM, and therefore almost a given. Hardly "arbitrary". Only big difference is the targets & non-threats. IDPA allows Tac Rigs for Cops, so for a 3-Gun Plum relaxed the Tac Rig issue and brought in a vendor to make sure folks had safe gear that would work. We'll just have to agree to disagree. I'm glad you all had fun.
  5. This is directed at NO ONE in specific: Some shooters (especially NEW to action games) tend to mix-up IDPA Rules and USPSA Rules. USPSA is the only one where you can drop partially loaded mags, shoot out in the open without cover, etc. This was still an "IDPA-style" Match, so you had to move & shoot at the same time instead of just standing there and popping Zombies. Penalties are mostly from unfamiliarity with the game or if you get caught "gaming the stage". I sometimes confuse the two when I shoot IDPA and revert to USPSA-style blasting myself, thus incurring those penalties. But I overcome them with solid hits "down-zero". That all being said, if you never read the Rules, why are you complaining about the penalties? And the put-downs for the R-O's is extremely BAD FORM. IF you have a problem with a R-O, you handle it THERE AND THEN, NOT a day later on the internet like a whiny adolescent. The guys that do the work don't get paid to be there to be "ragged-on". Nuff said........
  6. I'm glad you had a good time, but I just can't wrap my head around shooting a smokeless cartridge with substitute black powder AND in a semi-auto. This whole runnin a 1911 on black is foreign to me. If smokeless is ever outlawed in NJ, you'll have the most experience loading the only thing left that'l go bang, LOL!
  7. Ten years ago I was in my back yard looking in the sky for crop dusters, my M-1 and several loaded 8-round en-block Clips (YES CLIPS!) at the ready. Cops swung by, (back yard visible from the street) looked at my set-up and asked what I was doing, so I told him. He told me "SHOOT FIRST! And get the planes tail number if possible! That's what they told us to do!" So I strongly doubt our local PD is going to be going around and "collecting" arms, LOL! That same M-1 and I stand ready to help kick some butt this weekend! Let's hope I don't need to press Her into service! As far as the rest of this thread goes: Lumping everybody together cause they're from the same "group" isn't right, but neither is the almost deafening SILENCE from the Muslim community and it's leaders when afforded an opportunity to speak-out against these vicious cowardly attacks that were & are committed by members of their faith in the name of their God, in some twisted mind-set in the name of their religion. Now you Boys with the Tacticool .223 pea shooters all dressed-out don't be feelin too embarassed & under-gunned now, ya hear! Us OLD MEN with our .30's will save your A$$es if the SHTF, LOL! Dave
  8. Jeff Cooper said it best: .22 LR is wampum! Can be used as money to barter for anything else you need. Or the guy with the 12 ga. (like me) just takes it. Any of you kids know who Cooper was?? Or Bill Jordan for that matter?
  9. Different guns like different heads, no matter what mag is in the gun. Make sure you try your ammo in a friend's mag with your gun, then buy those mags. As far as 8 or 10 rounders, depends on what games you want to play......USPSA L-10 Division uses 10 rounders, Single-Stack uses 8 rounds in a mag and so does IDPA in their CDP Division. 7-round mags get relegated to the junk drawer at my house--unless they're for my Officer's .45 (smaller mag, same follower as 8-rounder) so it can bark with 7+1 in the tube. Dave
  10. If one of your party is a member of Lehigh, they can get a free Beretta loaner to use for the day....just one bene that comes with membership. On the weekend, better let 'em know in advance that you'll need the loaner if you intend upon using one. Dave
  11. And that there is why CCW is never going to happen in NJ, sadly.......
  12. Let me guess, it's the one that NOBODY liked! That's always the way it goes!
  13. I'll be playing with explosives next pit over shooting the Holy Black. Stop by and say hello! It's easy to find us....just look for the funny smelling smoke, LOL! Dave
  14. I remember those convert-a-coms. The only thing the designers didn't figure on was coffee & cigarette ashes & butts finding their way into the units, LOL! Weakest link in the chain was the constant charging of the Nicad batteries. After a while, they developed a memory, and since you had to put the radio into the convert-a-com to use the car speaker, you'd over-charge the battery or charge it too soon and thereby develop the memory syndrome. But while the battery was fairly new, they worked really well, especially with UHF repeater systems with voting receivers. Old Bridge had them back in the 80's. Thanks for the ride down memory lane to both of you guys! Dave Former OEM Communications
  15. Nothin quite like a Motorola "Brick"! You almost couldn't kill those radios! I would have LOVED to shoot that stage with you guys and meet your friend and shake his hand! BRAVO!
  16. No, I'm NOT a Cop! I shoot better than most Cops, LOL! Present company excepted, LOL!
  17. Yes it's for REAL! Happened over 10 years ago. Maybe in NYC? Big Motorola Radios like the MT-500 stood almost a foot tall and weighed 2-3 pounds or more. Took a lot of skill to hit the thief in the head as he was riding the stolen bike away, LOL! Wrote about in the papers too! I don't remember what happened to the cop, although the family of the Perp did sue him!
  18. This here ain't the old west and you're no Rooster Cogburn! We can't go around willy-nilly shooting escaping robbers in the back. Cops can't even throw their heavy Motorola MT-500 Walkie-Talkies (affectionately called "Bricks") at bad guys stealing bicycles anymore! And yes, the thief got hit with the radio in his head and crashed the bike & died! Once the bad guy runs away from you, the window to engage is over. UNLESS he's running towards another potential victim with a weapon in his hands or you're in fear for their life, etc. Even then you have to be careful---shooting someone in the back doesn't look good no matter how much the guy is doing wrong, unless he's going to kill someone else.
  19. Be very careful here. IWB holsters are sometimes made of softer leather materials for comfort. These soft leathers pinch together when empty and require you to open then with your fingers while inserting the gun into the holster. That means that you might have to "cross yourself" by pointing a loaded gun at your fingers in order to re-holster after loading the gun! In my experience (which is considerable) no League Chair or R-O will let you cross yourself while "making ready". This goes for ALL disciplines! So not only is an IWB holster a distinct disadvantage speed-wise during a Game, it can get you DQ'd BEFORE YOU FIRE A SHOT!! Dave League Chairman for PPC NRA RSO
  20. I only own revolvers made by S&W. K-L and N-Frames with barrel lengths from 4"- 8& 3/8". I have/can/will use any of them to defend myself. I've put thousands of rounds through them all and instant muscle memory comes into play the moment I pick any of them up. I've owned some of them for more than 34 years and practice both strong and weak handed with them all. That all being said, the mighty .44 Mag N-Frame Dirty Harry gun is quite intimidating from the business end. In competitions I use .44 spl 240 grain Cowboy loads from Magtech that make IPSC major with a 180 power factor and they're cream puffs to shoot--no big muzzle flash at night in a darkened room, and quick follow-up shots due to reduced recoil! I'd use it over a 9mm noisey & bright pea shooter any day! The Rugers will function, but the older S&W will SHOOT the A$$ off of a fly! Dave
  21. Welcome! I shoot the Holy Black (powder that is) up in Vernon on a once a month basis. Could invite you to attend a Shoot IF yer interested in seeing some smoke blow through the air! Dave
  22. Welcome to the Forum. What long guns do you want to buy? If you already have your FID, you're ready to spend some dough and bring home some rifles & shotguns!
