  1. The Officer was a nice guy. Could have been a little better at opening the action while pointing the gun in a safe direction, but we'll let that part slide this time. The guy wearing the gun is obviously one of those open carry people looking to make a point. Why walk around with an unloaded gun?? It's like walking around with a hammer and no nails! One of these days one of these folks making a point is going to get shot for doing something stupid. I'm glad this encounter turned-out as good as it did. I'm sorry if some of you think that I'm crazy. The culture out here in the East expects guns to be carried out of sight. Out West the culture expects guns to be worn openly. How come we never see videos of guys walking around with loaded guns being stopped out West?? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for CCW. Taking up a Cop's time (as well as the second Cop in the video) could result in someone having to wait longer for help in a real emergency. As a former First Aider & current heart patient, that bothers me. Dave
  2. My double-stack tricked-out Para. Can shoot the a** off a fly!
  3. Now that's the understatement of the year, LOL! He only got 364 days for the hollow points, the other 13 years were for dealing crack (third time down). Some states he'd be a Lifer at this point! FATHER OF THE YEAR, NOT!
  4. Mike, Yeah, the internet is really something else! You better be careful, as you've sided with me on the list of issues that needed addressed over the last two years, for you now may incur the wrath of S&W39 too, LOL! As far as OBR&PC goes, we have eyes everywhere, so we're O-K. And our Indoor Action League turns-away some of our own members, advising them to get more familiar with their equipment and it's operation prior to entering our friendly competition. We also offer friendly advice on what to do, buy, etc. That's why we have such a good safety record (but you know this already Mike). As for this EB range, I think that any place that wants to help newbies learn to shoot is a good thing. But I'd be willing to bet that the hourly rates will have to be more than at SS or BA cause those two ranges don't have to pay a $60K-$100K salary & benefits package for a Police Officer to be the R-O! So that means that the Forum Members and the public will have to just SUCK IT UP and pay what's necessary so that on paper, the place can at least "break-even"! In the economy we now have, you know some of the El-Cheapos that shoot will be bitching about the difference that they will be asked to pay, "that somebody's watching their every move", that the rules are too strict, etc. I can almost see it in a thread now! How many R-O's they'll need will depend upon the hours that they're open and other factors. Then there's the public relations aspect of a media event to be handled. Like spending money fixing-up the range so that none of the AD's from over the years can be seen. And then does every whackado get to shoot or is there some sort of multi-hour orientation that the public must pass (NRA First Steps?) before they're allowed to use the range, and if so who gets paid to run that? I sincerely wish this new endeavor well and look forward to shooting beside some of the safe shooters that they'll produce. And to S&W39: "Sticking together on this one" is a great idea, so how about an apology for the sarcasm & name calling? After-all, you want me to be on your side, right? Take care Mike & see you soon! Dave
  5. That nice guy might be at the next Indoor Action practice match. Please point him out, as I want to shake his hand for the kindness extended on such a hot day. Dave
  6. Your childish name-calling and sarcasm aren't called for. If this "big idea" has already taken TWO FULL YEARS to review so far, it sounds like someone is trying to "push a rope". It sure wouldn't have taken me two years to get R Done! I don't have a dog in this fight, per se. Some of my County taxes went to pay for this as well. Contrary to your opinion of me, I hope it does open so that more people have some place to shoot. Dave
  7. This is interesting. The devil will be in the details. Cost, hours of operation, who R-O's & staffs the facility, developing a calendar and allowing the EBPD priority range time, will there be some sort of "test" to use it or will a newbie off the street be able to shoot the place up, what about the fancy (fun) gizmos that their supposed to have for PD training, insurance liabilities, additional maintainence, custodian, the list goes on forever. Running a range isn't as easy as it seems.....this "study" may take a while or the Council may re-think the entire thing. Mind you I'm not saying it shouldn't open. It's that there's a lot to consider and this "idea" is NOT a way to close a budget gap due to the State cutting the funds it sends to the towns. I'd pay to visit there if I could make use of the fancy training gizmos that the Police use. Dave
  8. I completely agree with this post, well said! Dave
  9. Can't make it this Saturday. I have participated in one with my Black Powder Muzzleloading rifle using .50 cal conical bullets--what a BLAST! Let us know a little sooner so we might have a chance to set the time slot aside next time, O-K? Have FUN! GOT WOOD? LOL!
  10. +1! How are Cops supposed to know if the Perps are charged-up on PCP or some kinda juice that interferes with the brain saying "lights-out"?? That scene isn't secure until the crowd is dispersed or the Perps gun is found, preferably BOTH! Anybody from the crowd could take a pot-shot at anyone working that scene, from the Paramedics to the Coroner! It has already been proven years ago (too long ago for the "kids" on this forum to remember) that dead bad guys can go on and keep killing (see the F.B.I. murders where the 9mm pistol rounds pumped into the bad guys were "kill shots") because of a combination of not enough of an effective wound channel and a lot of adrenalin circulating through the bloodstream of the bad guys! The one guy killed at least one or two Agents after being fatally shot! Another FYI: The development of the 10 mm pistol round and the subsequent development of the .40 Short & Weak came as a DIRECT result of THESE bad guys continuing to kill Agents after being fatally shot! Sometimes I think that we're dealing with Trolls around here??????? Dave
  11. O-K, Let me see if we're on the same page: You're asking about setting a target frame at the berm in the slots provided, and then shooting it at LESS than the maximum distance that the Pit is good for. The answer to this is YES, so long as no one else wants to use the 50 yard range #6 or the 100 yard range #7 for the maximum rated distances that those Pits allow. So IF you're sighting-in at 25 yards on the 50 yard range (#6) and someone else shows up and wants to shoot at 50 yards, you're obligated to move back to 50 yards to maintain a safe firing line. That is one of our Range Rules. Ditto for the 100 yard range (#7) on the far right. It should be noted that you must ALWAYS place your target frames in the slots provided for the 50 & 100 yard ranges and should always place what ever home-made frame you're using in the Pistol Pits up against the berm so the ranges are being used according to the rules. If you have any questions about anything that you're not sure about, feel free to contact your membership chairman or any member of the Board of Trustees. As far as where you want to put your post for the AR, some folks sight-in for 100 yards using the 6 o'clock hold at the bottom of the black center of the target. Others want to hit a fly's behind and sight-in "dead-on" putting the post in the middle of the target they wish to shoot. There isn't a right or wrong way, just the way that works for you the best, with the allowance for just what & how you're trying to shoot: clay birds on the berm, shoot & C centers, or maybe a SR-1 100 yard military target we use for High Power League on the second Sunday of each month. I hope that I've been helpful. See you around the ranges, and please remember to bring & drink plenty of water when you go to the outdoor range. Dave
  12. Welcome! While you're checking things out, remember that MEMBERSHIP in some Clubs (Old Bridge & CJ for instance) isn't REQUIRED in order to participate in some of the Leagues that they run: IDPA, USPSA, PPC, Black Powder, High Power, Cowboy, etc. All you have to do is pay a little more as a non-member and go through a safety orientation provided by the League Chairman. So once you become familiar with your gun, you can hang-around and watch what some of us do, and then take the safety class and join-in on the fun! An NRA First Steps or Basic Pistol Class would be helpful to you as well. Again welcome to the forum! Dave
  13. I'm not sure. So far as of now I believe that there isn't any plans for it (at the Invitational). We do however always accommodate BPCR (with REAL Black) for a separate Rifle Division in our regular Matches. Pistol Cartridge Black Powder used to shoot with C&B Revolvers (only ONE guy, with a Remmy conversion), but he was relocated to PA by his job so he no longer attends the regular Matches. What guns are you thinking about bringing? Do you use REAL Black (or a sub) or do you use smokeless? Smokeless isn't allowed at this Match! Can you get some other friends interested in forming your own Division or would you be the ONLY guy there with centerfire arms?? Once these questions are answered, the Match Director can make a ruling. If it's JUST YOU, we can loan you all the guns you'll need to enjoy yourself at the Invitational. Feel free to PM me or send me an email so we can exchange phone numbers. Thanks for your interest and I hope to meet you at one of our Matches! Dave
  14. O-K, you got it! That M-1-A was sorta nice though! Would have been the cat's MEOW at the high power range on the second Sunday!
  15. Yeah, It's ME! And I bought that revo at Joe's in November of 1979! So that gun is older than some of the people complaining about the place

The Black Powder Gang at the Old Bridge Rifle & Pistol Club is one of only two NMLRA (National Muzzleloading Rifle Association) Charter Clubs located in the State of NJ! We hold our regular monthly Matches at Range #7 (the 100 yard Range) at the OBR&PC Outdoor Complex (see directions on web site) on the first Sunday of every month except June & October. NRA Qualification Matches are run every third Sunday of the month except June & October, where our regular routine is run. Our Club shoots pistols from the 25 yard line and then backs up to 50 yards to start the rifle Match. Novelty Shoots are usually held twice a year as well! We're a friendly bunch, so come on out and give Black Powder a try!
  17. The ONLY person making this PUBLIC is YOU. There are two sides to this story (I checked). I'm not going to comment on YOU, your WASR or magazines. Name calling isn't appropriate behavior on this or any other forum. Dave
  18. No, I would sterilize those who've already demonstrated the need to reproduce to obtain more benefits! What number of offspring will it take (from different sperm donors) for you to realize that some of them produce more kids for a bigger check, 3, 5, more?? One or two "OOpses" with different losers is quite enough, thank-you! Socially less desirable or worthy are your key-words. I merely want to give the women affected the chance to get clean, get trained, get a job and feel good about themselves. To become someone to look up to, to become someone that their kids can look up too. Break the cycle, NOW!
  19. Are you kidding me? They multiply like rabbits and never with the same father. My solution is certain. Yours is like Natural Family Planning or No F.....ng Protection! LOL! I feel sorry for the kids though....it's not their fault for being made that way.....
  20. And if you really want to PO the Dems, make NORPLANT (birth control injected under the forearm) the rule to get Welfare too!
  21. Excellent point that I'd missed. Some of the rabbits disappear behind a downed tree. Some of the crossers hit a tree trunk before you can even see them in the air. Very challenging indeed! Thank God for the "look-sees", LOL!
  22. Mike, As cool as Trap is, Sporting Clays is much cooler, due to the extended level of changing presentations. Some times the birds are coming AT YOU instead of going away. I'm a member at Lehigh. I'm not a perfect shooter, I go there to just have fun with friends. Great place! I'd be interested in meeting you there at 9:00 am on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. They have electric controllers and gas golf carts. I usually don't ride in the cart, but walk the course. I use the cart for my gun, ammo, lunch/cooler, paper towels, D-Lead Wipes, etc. Standard COF is (17) stations with 100 shells to a full round. I usually shoot 125-175, going back to stations that we like to smack em' good. Lehigh has ice water in Igloo coolers every-so-often around the course, which runs through a former factory. About half of the course is wooded, so you get some shade too. Picnic tables near the turn by the big pond. Let me know when you want to go and I'll be your "guide". Several Old Bridge members go there on a semi-regular basis. As for you not knowing I'm a shotgunner, I don't like to brag but I do O-K in a few disciplines: PPC, IDPA, USPSA, Black Powder Pistol, Rifle, and ML Shotgun. If it can pump lead into the ground or sky, I've tried it, LOL! See you around the ranges! Dave
  23. We basically agree that stupid or drugged-up bad guys aren't going to care if a 12 ga. is racked. If the above happens, well, it could be messy for the bad guy(s). I never said that racking would scare away everybody. I said something about why not trying it first to see what happens while he/they are still outside. Didn't mean to make it complicated.
  24. NO, actually I don't! As long as he or they are outside. After being warned (racking & announcing that the cops have been called and you have a shotgun) if they choose to continue and gain entrance, he or they are dealt with in some sort of expedient nature, with the first response to be non-lethal unless they have a firearm or knife. We still live in NJ. I can't just wait in silence for an unarmed Perp to gain entrance and cut him in half with a 12 ga. I don't want to be prosecuted for shooting an unarmed bad guy. I would rather help him change his mind about gaining entrance in the first place. The American Riflemen magazine has lots of examples of where the mere presence of a firearm deterred any further aggression. It also has examples of what homeowners did to protect themselves by using deadly force as a last resort.
