  1. I'll give another +1 for Denville. I recently went in and had a P2P extended while I waited for 5 minutes.
  2. Some might say to you, would you rather be in trouble or 6 feet under? There are many parts of New Jersey that are actually quite safe. Somerset is not a high crime area. If you want to take the risk and you have lots of money for lawyers, then do what you must. I would advise against breaking any NJ firearms laws as the penalties for possessing an "illegal" pistol far outweigh the risk of not possessing a CCW weapon while travelling in this state.
  3. I found a nice 3" SP101 in .38 Spc that I am bringing home and hope that my wife will like. She saw an ad in the ANJRPC newsletter about NRA Family Day on July 27 at Cherry Ridge, and wants to go check it out.
  4. I bought this Ruger SP101 off of Gunbroker last week. It was a used 3" in .38 Special that Ruger only made in the first two years of production. Local gun dealers aren't really interested in buying and dealing used firearms from the internet. If you can find what you want and have a reasonably priced transfer dealer, why not buy from Gunbroker?
  5. I just picked up a nice first year Ruger SP101 in .38 Special. I am hoping that my small-handed wife will enjoy shooting it. Should be here by Friday.
  6. The range hotline does announce police use ahead of time, so you can plan accordingly. They were there this past Tuesday from 8:30 to 12:30.
  7. My wife's accuracy improved drastically when I convinced her to keep her eyes open when she pulled the trigger. I noticed what she was doing when she was using a laser sight. She would hold on the target and then just as she pulled the trigger, I would see the laser jump away from the bullseye.
  8. I have never been to CR on the weekend, and all my weekday trips have been great. Weekdays, there are rarely more than a handful of shooters on any range. I don't like the yearly membership increases either, but I still think that it is worth what I pay for a single range membership for having such a nice range 45 minutes from my home.
  9. Four surgeons are discussing who makes the best patients to operate on: The first surgeon says, "I like to see accountants on my operating table, because when you open them up, everything inside is numbered," The second responds, "Yeah, but you should try electricians. Everything inside them is color-coded," The third surgeon says, "No, I really think librarians are the best; everything inside them is in alphabetical order." But the fourth surgeon, Dr. Morris Fishbein, shuts them all up when he observes: "The French are the easiest to operate on. They’ve no guts, no heart, no balls and no spine. Plus the head and ass are interchangeable.
  10. My wife has shot my guns and would shoot them again, but if she was not with me should would neither own nor shoot guns. She is Taiwanese and the politics of gun ownership does not mean beans to her(no one in Taiwan owns guns). She has shot my HK USP Tactical, USPc .45 and my P7 PSP but says that she prefers the Walther P22.
  11. No flash blindness hunting in low light conditions
  12. WIfe got me a Milwaukee M12 3/8" Drill/driver, very nice cordless tool for around the house. I also have an M12 1/2" hammer drill/driver and an M12 3/8" drive ratchet. Very useful and powerful tools.
  13. I love the shooting sports and I have a nice selection of guns to shoot, but when it comes time to take care of my two young kids, my personal time for shooting comes up short these days. Still, I want to be prepared in case I ever need to defend myself and family, and I'm hoping that in the next couple of years my son and daughter will show some interest and then they can come with me.
  14. Use headless allen screws to fill the holes. I used Loctite Blue on some rail screws for my Rem 700, and when I wanted to remove them to cerakoted the receiver, I had to heat the barrel with a torch to loosen them. Since then I went to the lowest strength Loctite purple 242.
  15. If you plan on shooting the gun, then just buy a new one. If you want to collect it and not shoot it and you have $1750 to invest in something that won't give you much ROI except personal satisfaction, then go ahead and buy it. I love H&Ks and I have 5, but no collectors, just shooters.
  16. I will consider one in .45 acp when the come out.
  17. My wife, being a CPA, put it bluntly. If you or your family want to hold on to your money, don't retire here, and certainly don't die here.
  18. The P7s weight and mag capacities are two legitimate complaints, but don't bother me a bit. The P7 is a gunfighter's tool, designed to be safe for the user, fast to enable to fire, reliable, and very accurate. It is not meant to be used at the range shooting 10 consecutive mags. Since most gunfights last only between 2 and 3 rounds, 8 rounds is enough to do its job in most confrontations. The VP9 is definitely on the ugly side, but the looks will likely grow on many considering it. For me, I prefer the squeeze cocking mechanism to the split trigger as a safety device.
  19. In NJ, if you use deadly force for protecting you or your family in self defense, you WILL be treated like a criminal, arrested, and likely prosecuted. There will be a report in the media about it in a negative tone, and even if you prove your innocence and avoid conviction, there will be no follow-up retracting what they said about you in the first place.
  20. Having a rifle that has a removable magazine doesn't ever make the rifle illegal. Only if the detachable magazine itself has a capacity greater than 15 rounds, then it would make the magazine itself illegal, never the rifle itself unless it has an internal magazine that holds greater than 15 rounds. Any consideration for bolt action rifles? Other than that, nice flow chart.
  21. My S&W 1917 is a sweet shooter...
  22. The voting No population is the voting block that enables and continues to keep the out of touch politicians that keep dishing us these anti-2A laws in office. The poll doesn't capture the actual political climate here in NJ.
  23. If, at the hub, UPS doesn't have your gunsmith's FFL on file, be ready to call and ask him to send them a copy while you wait.
  24. For bulk NRA and other targets on NRA approved paper, try www.speedwelltargets.com They are local to Union, NJ so you can save on shipping.
