  1. Great review and a great gun. Congratulations! I have six of the Magnum Research mags and they work just fine and are priced in the low $30's -- not as cheap as Glock but a lot better than $53.
  2. I hiked the AT last August with my son one afternoon. Here is the view from Sunrise Mountain.
  3. Thanks. Foxes make so many different noises that it might have been a fox. The fisher cat sound got my dog the most excited, though.
  4. No, it was not a bird. I am positive of that. It moved quickly from the back, to the side, to the front of the house, as if it was passing through our propert. It was much louder than a bird, too. I know what a morning dove sounds like, and it was definitely not that.
  5. I was awakened at 4:40 AM (windows open) by some animal making a whistling sort of noise. The rhythm of it was something like 1&2 3. It drove the dog crazy, so I don't think it was a bird, because they do not get her riled up. It was not the eerie screeching sound that I have heard the foxes make. This was a noise I never heard before. Any ideas?
  6. I've been on the waiting list for "only" six months.
  7. Yes, I was thinking the same thing. Why do people give up their rights so easily?
  8. Yes, same here. It has kept our Boxer in the yard for 9 years, and she has not worn her collar for most of the years. It just requires the occasional refresher. Here she is:
  9. I have about 1,200 rounds through my 9mm, and I really, really like this gun. It is my first handgun, and it is a keeper.
  10. Bloomberg wants giant cups of soda to be illegal, while abortion is legal. Yeah, that makes sense. He cares about life.
  11. RTSP has increased their fee to $50. http://www.rtsponline.com/Policies/
  12. I always have trouble spelling and pronouncing desmodromic
  13. Is your PPQ a 9mm? If so, the Magnum Research magazines will work just fine. They are $32. I have six of them and have shot hundreds of rounds through them. http://www.magnumresearch.com/MR-Eagle-Series-Magazines/Magnum-Research-MR-Eagle-9mm-Magazine-15-Rounds.asp
  14. I think you guys are over-reacting. From Fox news: Yes, "sweet" is the first adjective the came to mind.
  15. Part of the problem with these cases is that we no longer put seriously mentally ill people in institutions unless they have already proven that they are a threat to others. At that point, it's too late. I don't know if allowing mentally ill people out is good or bad, but clearly there are some people who need to be separated from society, or bad things will happen. I just shot slugs out of my Rem 870 12 ga for the first time on Saturday. Wow, is all I can say -- it makes quite a hole, and I now know I have to point it a little lower than I thought.
  16. See -- like I said, if she gets interested in this, it will end up costing as much as your firearms. Do you know how much Photoshop costs? Then you will have to upgrade your computer. memory cards. flash. telephoto zoom lenes. wide angle lenses. tripod. case. ...
  17. That's good advice, but I am a Canon person. There are Canon people and Nikon people, and then a bunch of other brands. If your wife gets interested in photography, it will cost as much as your gun hobby! Anyway, you are really making a choice on a lens family. Once you start buying lenses, you are stuck with a particular brand. New bodies will come out ever year, but you can keep using the same lenses (with some exceptions). If you buy Canon or Nikon, there are a tremendous number of lenses available, including a huge supply of used ones. Most of my lenses I have bought used, and you can get some great deals. There are also a ton of accessories available for these two brands, far more than any others.
  18. The other problem with Facebook, aside from economic/financial ones, is that it does not really help people to relate to one another. In fact, it is one more factor that is contributing to the break-up of families. http://blogs.smartmoney.com/advice/2012/05/21/does-facebook-wreck-marriages/
  19. Agreed. Facebook may just be a fad. Even if it is not, their growth will slow down dramatically. They offer info about people to advertisers and merchants. Google and Amazon do the same thing, with different business models. I also think you're right about LinkedIn. In the last couple of years, whenever I have been contacted about a job, it has been through LinkedIn. When the economy picks up, they will see a lot of traffic.
  20. Don't mess with this eagle
  21. My mother had a similar reaction, except I was 51 at the time and she was 85. She said, "You're the last person I thought would be into guns."
  22. We were gone by then. There were a couple of other teenage girls there when we were there, which was good for her to see.
  23. I am new to guns myself. I got my Remington 870 in December and my Walther PPQ 9mm in February. Last Saturday, I took my 16 yr old step-daughter to RTSP, because she had shown an interest. She did pretty well. She hit a smallish target at 5 yards with 14/15 rounds. It was definitely a confidence booster for her. I know she was pleased because she saved the target to show to my wife and to her father. She now knows basic gun safety, and how to load and shoot a 9mm. In time, I will introduce her to a 12 ga.
  24. I am over 50, and I have been a registered voter for 34 years and a driver for 36 years, but I have only been called once. I was let go within an hour because they did not need me. I don't understand how they select which people serve.
  25. I didn't know they let stink bugs inhabit Randolph!
