  1. Extractor broke off all together on mine. Probably after about 8,000 rounds. Damn thing still worked but 1 out of 4 was a stove pipe. Put the new Ruger extractor in and those puppies really fly out the side. Dirty ammo will give you light strikes more than stove pipes. The area on the bottom just before the breech has to to be cleaned. Best thing to use is a dental pick and a pair of glasses so you can see what you are doing. :-)
  2. Filthy ammo. The Ruger MKIII eats it up but my Sig 522 hates it. The cleaning is a ****. Lots of grit. Like someone threw some sand in the gun. Even my bolt action Marlin hates it. Get all kinds of garbage flying Back at your face. I still have more than two boxes left and feel like just leaving it on the range shooting bench with a sign saying free. But am afraid someone will sue me. I used this stuff years ago and it was not so bad.
  3. Was gong to get one. Got a Stag model 8 instead. Good luck with it.
  4. I had a problem with two cards. On Amex card you can have them send you an email everytime there is a transaction without the card physically being there.
  5. Went there yesterday with my son. Nice day. Sunny and no wind. As good as it gets when it comes to winter shooting. As far as the RO's I never had any problems with any of them. Maybe because my son barks at me if I do something wrong before they see me. :-) Spoke to a few of them on few occasions and they all seem like pretty good guys. There was a new gun owner there with his family and he put the magazine in backwards into a semi auto pistol. So one of the guys came over when he was having difficulties and showed him what he did wrong. Another guy came over later and I don't know if he was a RO and explained to them about pointing the gun straight down range and not up or to the side. The one time I did see someone get nasty it was not a RO. It was some guy and woman that looked like competition pistol shooters. They had all the gear and seemed to have access to one of the storage sheds to keep their targets. Some guy did something wrong and they were really in his face. Good way to loose a member. No need for that. It was nothing life threatening and it could have been handled in a much better way. Saw these two people again a few weeks later and they really seem to have a holier than thou attitude. Besides that, every trip has been a good trip as far as the RO's and members go.
  6. They are there to protect the people of NY from people like us. We are the new lepers. Really a sad thing.
  7. He is right. The ruling class can't stand the fact that we are armed. If we are armed we are their equal.
  8. I have one. Had to wait for them to make a NJ Compliant. I think it took 4 weeks. Try Ramsey Outdoors in Ramsey. Got it really cheap before everyone found out about it.

    Walther PPQ

Friend shot one and said it's great. Trigger makes the gun and he was able to shoot better than with his Glock. Saw this in Popular Mechanics and they mention the trigger pull. http://www.popularmechanics.com/technology/military/weapons/the-walther-ppq-007s-favorite-handgun-gets-an-update-7865938 I'm all over the place with my Beretta PX4 if I don't concentrate. This might be less work. Anyone have one? How much did you pay?
  10. I've found that their prices were really good. You have to get to know them and you'll love them. I walked out of Meltzer's with permits in hand. After 15 minutes they did not even look up at me.
  11. They had the a sign for the Federal Target loads for I think it was $4.59 but had none I don't know where that came from last weeks sale or this weeks sale was not in any of the ads the store in Paramus will sell on saturday the stuff going on sale on sunday since they are closed on sunday
  12. Kerosene was $3.89 per gallon 2 weeks ago The atf and mineral spirits have been in my Garage for ages so I'll put them to good use pure kerosene I'll just use for flushing the parts clean I'll still the standard stuff for cleaning
  13. Have to try that mixture Got myself some dental picks Those things are great for all the little places you can't reach But the most valuable items are a bright light and my reading glasses Amazing how much more stuff you can see with those
  14. Go mine from Costco a over a year ago. It was a Canon and I'm very happy with it. Electronic lock and still has the same battery. I go in and out of the safe all the time. Anyone can get into anything. As far as fire rating. The thing is in the basement. Top of the house will go up in flames but the basement? Fire station is two blocks away.
  15. you should adopt my son he wants to trick out the 522 let me know how the sling works out what type did you get I have the black dog and it takes 15 rounds have to leave it behind when I go to my vacation place in upstate NY
  16. So Kerosene it is. I have a 275 gallon tank of the stuff upstate.
  17. I don't have the patience to clean off all the "grit" in all the tight areas and in reality it seems like it can't be done unless you flush it our with something or be able to soak it in something. Using WD-40 out of can gets mixed results. I spray as much on the wall as I spray on the parts. Seems like it would be a good idea to flush out all the stuff with kerosene and re-lube with rem oil afterwards. Kerosene is kind of greasy to start with and when it dries is does not give it that pale dull look that you would get if you used gasoline (which is never a good idea).
  18. Ramsey Outdoors had some last time I was there
  19. got the part put it in pain in the butt since the bottom part of the old extractor was still in there and I didn't have a magnetic pickup flew out of there after a few attempts now I have to get out to the range
  20. I bought quite a few guns from Ramsey Outdoors from their Ramsey location. I priced some of the items and they had the best prices. They threw in a free box of ammo with one of the pistols and one of the rifles. Got a real bargin on the Sig 522. Was $50 less than anyone else. They had to order it and I waited 4 weeks but it was worth it. Went to Meltzers with my son once but the place was a zoo and they did not seem too friendly so we left after about 10 minutes.
  21. on a short stay at the range my son and I go through at least 500 rounds 600-700 rounds is more typical we are not criminals all of our bullets are registered we send them to Lautenberg's staff in NJ and they use an engraving tool to engrave a unique serial number on each bullet the serial numbers are kept in Lautenbergs office safe in Washington
  22. It's a real sweet gun. I probably have about 5,000 rounds through mine. Does not need a lot of cleaning. Clean every 1,000 + rounds and throw in some oil in between. Stay away from the Remington golden bullets in the green and yellow boxes. They really foul the gun up. I had a red dot on mine but went to the iron sights after I put the red dot on another gun. It's just as good to shoot with the iron sights as with the red dot so I'm sticking with the iron sights. This is the red dot. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001BQZSZ4/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00 I've shot tons of the 22 ammo with it and about 400 rounds of 223 ammo with Stag Arms model 8. Have the red dot for over a year and still has the same battery. Once it's sighted in I never had to readjust it. Dot it sharp. Can't beat the price. A friend of mine has a much more expensive red dot and he likes mine better. I put on this riser and was able to use the iron sights without taking off the red dot. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003TWX8HS/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00
  23. E-mailed Ruger over a week ago got a confirmation that they would respond in 2-3 days but no further response as of yet not impressed guess I have to get on the phone with them hate it when you can only e-mail via their website instead from your personal account
  24. Here is a good one. Gun was so flawless it was on the spooky side. Probably has 5000 rounds through it. Started to stove pipe like crazy two weeks ago. Took it and cleaned it really well and went out today and one in ten was a stove pipe. Started looking for a solution on line and getting an after market extractor was mentioned. I looked at my pistol and guess what? Mine was gone. Emailed Ruger to see what they suggest. Plunger looks ok. Looks like an easy fix that I can do myself if they want to send me the part. I tell you. Youtube is a wonderful thing. Found that I can polish a few trigger parts and really smooth out the trigger as well as to reduce the pull from five plus lbs. To under four lbs.
