  1. Lecky, The P-223 is a 3-9x40 scope. You said your are looking for a scope that can be used as a red-dot AND provide magnification. The typical scope for this is a 1-4. With the scope dialed back to 1.0, you can keep both eyes open. With a retical that is lit, you essentially have a red-dot. A 4.0 magnification is good to about 100 yards. The 3-9 would be a great unit from 50 to 200 yards, but not good at all at close range or indoors. You can checkout my Optisan at 4.0 mag in this thread: http://njgunforums.c...150#entry461150
  2. For home defense, total BS. Think about it, if someone is in your home, you are within 2 to 5 yards of the intruder/target. A blind man can hit a center-mass target at that distance. Furthermore, if you are tracking someone, protecting YOUR element of surprise, a laser can give up that advantage.
  3. I really like my Optisan 1-4x24 (including mount) @ $149. There are better scopes out there, but not for the money.
  4. Nothing wrong with adding to an old thread if someone searching can benefit from it...assuming that said member actually uses the search function. I gave a serious look at both, and in the end I purchased a Beretta 92SF-M9. The M9 came home with me because it felt better in my hand, I liked the stacked sights and, as much as I hate to admit this, I was sold on the Beretta name. You can't go wrong with either. We all purchased for our own reasons.
  5. Simple, because they are REALLY good, and I'm REALLY average. I can get two rounds off with a semi-auto faster then I can with my .357M. But hey, that's just me.
  6. The image I have in my head is Buggs Bunny checking for duds by hitting rounds with a hammer.
  7. Worst of both worlds. 1. .The .22LR isn't the most effective round for one-shot kills/stops, unless the shot is really well placed. But that's OK as long as you have a fast follow-up shot, which brings us to problem number two... 2. A revolver is not a fast on follow through as a semi-auto. Nor does it have the capacity of a semi-auto. Unless you get the magic head shot, the perp is gonna keep on coming. At that point you can use the .22 revolver to beat the perp.
  8. Yes, I guess almost anything can be a hunting weapon. I was raised in PA where we did use a piston for the humane shot. When I was 10 my dad carried the pistol. When I started hunting on my own at 15 I carried. Since I moved to NJ 25 years ago I've have mostly hunted on my own land and the adjacent farms. I will continue to carry when I hunt because it is perfectly legal for me to carry on my own property. Man there are just too many non-sense rules in this state. When the kids are out of school I'm movin' out.
  9. I will conceed that a hand gun is not a hunting weapon if you will conceed that many hunters carry a hand gun for the purpose of a humane put-down shot.
  10. Regular people = people that don't loose their minds when they see people with rifles & guns. I regularly see people on my road with hunting gear (firearms & bows). They walk down the road to access public and private land. I do this as well. If I happened to come across a deer in the road that had been struck by a car, I wouldn't hesitate to to put one in its ear..and continue walking down the road with my weapon. Life is different in the NW corner of the state.
  11. Depends on what part of NJ you live. Warren County is full of regular people.
  12. Real housewives of NJ. Send these stupid people back to the city where they belong.
  13. I learned that the hard way. I walked into Jim Flynns to buy an SR22 and was told "not today". No big deal, I filled out the paperwork and got a call this morning that I could come get my new handgun. It was actually quick and convienent...I might do it this way in the future.
  14. My Win .30-30 has never failed to feed ammo, but several of my bolt action rifles have. That's not the greatest sample pool, but if I needed to grab one of my rifles, my 1894 is the most trusted.
  15. You'll have to remove the bayonet lug as well.
  16. Over the years I've purchased .177 BB guns for the kids at Dicks in PA. Here's the proceedure: 1. Choose BB gun 2. Walk to cashier at front of store 3. Pay for BB gun 4. Drive home.
  17. Pull through recoil. On a semi-auto, only release untul reset and hold it there until you know whether you want/need to squeeze off another round. If you release the trigger as soon as the weapon fires, you might release the trigger way beyond the reset point. Then you'll jerk the trigger to hurry-up the next shot.
  18. Like everyone else has said, this looks like an interesting build. I look forward to has it comes out as well as a parts list.
  19. I have a few permits to burn (slowly with the 30 day wait). Last week I picked up a Berretta M9 at Jim Flynn's. Next month it will be a Ruger SR22. I asked Jim about a CZ-75BD (decocker model) and was told that he can't get new ones due to the increase capacity of the magazine. He told me if I can find an older one with 15-round magazines he'd be happy to do the transfer. But I'd really like a new gun. So I started looking into the CZ licensed/copies/clones 9mm guns such as the EAA Witness, ArmaLite AR-24 and the MRI Desert Baby Eagle II. I've shot the AR-24 and thought it to be a great handling gun. It has a reputation for stove piping and sure enough, in the 50 rounds I fired I did get a stove-piped round. So that's off the list. The full sized Baby Eagle II (DE9915R) has caught my eye in both steel and poly framed. Does anyone have any direct experience with the MRI Baby Eagle II? It would be great if you have experience with both the CZ & MRI. I'm more interested in the steel frame then the poly, but open to opinions.
  20. Stag3 Upper $465 LW-15 Loaded Lower $110 That's $575. Now you just need to add sights/optics and mags. It can all be done for under $700 and the quality will be very good.
  21. That Core15 looks interesting. Does anyone have experience with their .22LR uppers?
  22. Just to close the loop... I got the phone call yesterday that my two permits are ready for pick-up. That's 147 days/21 weeks...5-1/4 months. That's just friggin' ridiculous. When I pick-up these permits I'll also be submitting an application for 4 more permits. Given the unreasonable amount of time I'll have to wait, I might as well just have permits in the system. When it comes to gun RIGHTS, New Jersery sucks. Thanks for defending the Constitution NJ.
  23. I too was looking into a M&P15-22 to complement my Stag3 AR-15. I was on the fence about getting/building a dedicated AR-15/22 or buying the S&W rifle and then a friend of mine purchased the M&P15-22 and brought it to my house for me to shoot. It's a great rifle; lots of fun. Lots of inexpensive fun. And very accurate at 100 yards. But after he left I started thinking about why I liked the rifle so much and why it was so much fun to shoot. I came to the conclusion that it was the accuracy that I was attracted to. Which got me thinking; why not just get a Ruger 10/22 (bull barrel) and then build it into a custom target rifle with a cool stock and great scope. Can anyone else give a review of a M&P15-22 versus an well built 10/22?
  24. Welcome from a member that is from the same small corner of the state.
  25. I'm not sure if you are from Warren county or Warren Township or just plain 'ol Warren, but if you are close to Easton PA, Heritage Guild rents rifles and handguns so you can buy before you try. If the range officer (RO) knows it's your first time out, he'll help get you acquainted.
