  1. First Shot - Father owned them since I was a youngster but I now have them. Rifle: Remington Model 572 Pump .22 (1999 - still have it) Shotgun: Remington 870 Express Youth 20ga (1999 - Still have it) Handgun: S&W 617 (1999 - Still have it)
  2. What is the advantage of single stack v. double stack? #newguyquestion
  3. Manchester Firing Line in Manchester, NH is about the closest thing that I've seen in the Northeast.
  4. @BlueLineFish - is it worth looking into once I get down to Bayonne full time? How long does it take you to get there on a weekend?
  5. I love how they use Las Vegas as the prototype...
  6. I'm with you, TheDon, it's confusing. As a newbie to NJ Gun Law, I read this and thought that it was less contradictory and more redundant. It seems that perhaps section 3 may have been passed later to revise the rules but the legislature may not have rescinded the original verbiage. I assume that this mean the Benneli M4 is out?
  7. That'll be good for the North Jersey crew.
  8. See Caine's link - has both Gen3 and Gen4 avail via Lipseys.
  9. The Restricted FID for Mace/Pepper Spray (OC) is a SHALL ISSUE permit but they require the paperwork for purchase and possession. I like the MA system because once you're in the system, you don't have to wait to buy a firearm or go back for a permit - that seems like the most annoying part of NJ. I was never bothered by the gun registration system but I understand why people don't appreciate it. As to your last point, there is a still a baddy characteristics - AR mags cannot be more than 10rds unless mag was created before 98 (I think), no folding stock, 10lb trigger pull, minimum length, no muzzle-breaks, threaded barrels/silencers, or automatic/select fire. Those are for mortals - there are the select few that get all of the above. Additionally, there are guns that are outright banned - hence in my post I said "Lawful firearms."
  10. Similar question - are there any classes that teach someone who's interested how to reload brass? I used to reload shotshells but have never done brass and am interested in learning.
  11. The way it works: Restricted FID: Purchase and posses MACE FID: Purchase and posses non-high capacity long guns, ammunition, and MACE LTC Class B: Purchase and posses non-high capacity handguns, all lawful long guns, ammunition, MACE (May not carry a loaded firearm either concealed or cased) LTC Class A: Purchase and posses all lawful handguns, long guns, ammunition, MACE (May carry a loaded firearm concealed per the restrictions on your license) I've heard about the craziness of CCW in NJ. I wish it weren't so impossible if for no other reason that you don't have to worry as much about getting stopped or feeling like a criminal everywhere.
  12. I'm not sure any gunshop would sell you a gun without looking at your license or other gov't ID. In that case they'd likely arrange a FFL xfer for you and let the receiving dealer deal with NICS.
  13. I'd say no - it's not really my style of weapon. That said, it'd be one hell of a talking piece.
  14. FWIW - in MA the dealer must provide a cable lock at the time of purchase of a new firearm. Trigger locks are not considered a viable method to safe the weapon - you have to loop the cable lock through the breach. In the home, you can have an unsecured loaded firearm as long as it is under your direct control or out of sight while you are in the same room. If you leave your home, the firearm must be secured in a locked container - safe, cable locked gun box etc. The guy may have been from one of those areas etc.
  15. Hey Midwest. I don't have to physically send the license back but I must notify via certified mail the issuing authority and the Firearms Registration Bureau of my move. At such a time as they receive the notice, my LTC will be void. Failure to send this change of address within 30 days of moving is cause for future disqualification for licensing in the state of Massachusetts... forever. Getting an LTC Class A isn't "harder" in Boston but there is almost no chance of getting an "Unrestricted Class A" - the one in which you can carry at anytime for "All lawful purposes." My LTC Class A is restricted to the fuzzily defined "sporting" purposes which means to and from my home and activities such as target shooting, hunting, hiking, fishing, backpacking, etc. The cities and towns surrounding Boston are known to be very stingy with the unrestricted licenses. The LTC process in general is pretty arduous no matter where you are in the state - 8 hour class, $300+ membership to a club, 2 hours of shooting with a police officer or NRA trainer to prove accuracy, fingerprints, background check, letters of reference (3). That said, once you're in the system you can buy any firearm that's approved for the state at any time and in any quantity.
  16. Thanks, BBK - thanks to everyone.
  17. For the references - I assume they ask you to submit their addresses etc. when you submit. Do they have to be NJ residents? County residents (NY standard)? Thanks - James
  18. Calendar would be perfect - I had checked that first for upcoming match information.
  19. Anyone going to be up to the range next Sunday (week after Easter)? I'd love to meet some of the posters in the flesh.
