  1. Ok, cool. Thanks for the info, I appreciate it!
  2. Just curious, has anyone on the forum ever gone to the NRA convention, particularly if it was in the last 5 years? Looks like they have an exhibition hall that looks like a mini-SHOT show and is what holds my particular interest. If I can't do SHOT, maybe this is the next best thing? Next year's is in Indianapolis which might make it one of the cheaper ones to go to for me. Appreciate any feedback anyone has to share. Thanks!
  3. I didn't see any good surplus deals as far as I was concerned. Everything is up in terms of price, especially ammo. As far as the rest of the show, was rather disappointed at the size as well as I don't think they had 1000 tables there because they really only filled the one hall. However I will say that I was happy that I got the chance to handle the Tavor finally. Didn't really do anything for me but I would have to shoot it to get a real idea of whether I truly liked it or not. However what I definitely did not like was the price they were asking for the Tavor. $2400!!! Jeez!!! I'd rather walk down the row and see if I could get the guy selling the KRISS Vector to make it NJ legal and sell it to me for $1800 he was asking for...
  4. I second the suggestion on the S&W TRR8 or R8. I picked up the R8 last year and enjoy it immensely. Love the grip and 8 shots is a definite plus with the cylinder setup to accept moonclips. Another selling point for me was the 5" barrel. For some reason, I've never really liked a 4" barrel on a revolver and 6" seems a bit long at times for some reason to me. Only real downsides is the cost and availability. Never shot a 686 but seems like a good gun from the research that I did on it. Was going to get that before I stumbled across a R8 for sale.
  5. I will say though that there is a bigfoot sighting. By that I mean, there was a vendor that actually had a Kel Tec KSG for sale, asking $2500. Even had a sign up that said that to even handle the gun would be $1, refundable if you bought it. I would've taken a pic to show you but they don't like/allow that. Someone who was there, back me up so people don't think I'm making this up, LOL!!! Seriously, agree on ammo prices but I couldn't believe the prices of rifles either, especially AK's. Cheapest I saw was for $750 I think but most were in the $900 to over $1100 range. Crazy. And even worse was if you wanted a PS90. Saw three for sale there, one asking for $2000 and the other two asking for $3000. Yikes! Well at least pistols seem to be moving though, I remember walking by full display cases in the morning and then walking by the late afternoon and seeing them down quite a few. Speaking of pistols, did anyone else catch that one "hybrid" shall we say of a 1911 lower attached to some sort of rifle upper? Was considered a rifle but talk about an odd bird...
  6. Wow, a brand new episode and I've not seen one thread talking about it unless I missed it. So did everyone tivo the latest episode and just haven't had the chance to watch yet? Finally just watched it myself, interesting in how they're running with the storylines so far as well as what they're showing in the previews for the next episode...
  7. Well, Obama is entitled to his opinion. If the violence of football bothers him that much though, then perhaps he should spend more time watching baseball given the difference between the two sports. What differences you say? Well I think a Mr. George Carlin summed it up succinctly here...
  8. Agree that it's not an issue, I bought a Mossberg 464 SPX (which is lever action that has an extending stock) from a PA dealer at a gun show about two months back and he had no issue selling to me which was funny cause just about every other gun he had that I wanted he couldn't sell to me.
  9. You can try http://www.mtnarmory.com to see if they can get/make you a 30rd 5.45x39 mag blocked to 15rd. I got one from them two months ago for like $30 including shipping, so not cheap but they work. You can also try http://www.mississippiautoarms.com, I bought two Tapco 10rd 5.45x39 mags from them and they also work. I wouldn't be surprised if they're all out of stock by now though...
  10. definitely try mtnarmory, i picked up two 15rd mags (7.62x39 and 5.45x39) from them about two months ago. Not cheap though, especially the 5.45. Their website wasn't working when I tried to order back then and had to call them up. Also I think they make them on order as I had to wait about two weeks before I got them but they work like a charm...
  11. You mentioned you lived in an apt, though you didn't mention what floor and my only 2 cents is that to ask about delivery. I bought a Liberty last year and they had no issue taking it up to the 3rd floor of my house and setting it up for me. Of course they did charge me extra for having to take it up to the 3rd floor. Not sure what Stack-on or whatever retailer that would deliver it would offer for you on that so suggest you ask. Otherwise I do like my Liberty...
  12. About gun control or rather what to do in light of the recent tragedy in CT... http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/690/bbw122412page1.png/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/248/bbw122412page2.png/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/546/bbw122412page3.png/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/515/bbw122412page4.png/ Yep, from the magazine related to the company belonging to our favorite (ahem) NYC mayor. Thankfully not written by him but one of the senior writers named Paul Barrett who recently wrote the book, "Glock: The Rise of America's gun". This article is an Interesting read, though not sure in the end whether the writer is pro or anti gun. I'll let you decide for youselves. A couple of my own thoughts, in red, on what was brought up in the article (spoiler alert if you want to read it first)... "...calling for renewed ban on assault weapons. Proponents of the legislation vow they will do a better job this time. No loopholes, they promise. Skepticism is warranted. Senator Dianne Feinstein, author of the 1994 law, has conceded the bill she plans to introduce early next year will "grandfather in" weapons legally possesed on the date of enactment. Moreover, the California Democrat has said the legislation will exempt 900 weapons used for hunting and sporting purpose." Yeah, a couple more holes and this AWB will be even less worthless like the last one, if that's even possible... "Nearly half of American households have one or more firearms, according to Gallup" Wow, that sounds a lot more than I would have thought. Would love to one day hear what the true number is, whatever it is... "Although they may have a tough military look, semiautomatic assault weapons, shot for shot, are no more lethal than Grandpa's Remington wooden-stock deer hunting rifle" Wish the gun control advocates would all read and understand the above and maybe they'd for once understand the futility of some of their intent and therefore adjust their thinkings accordingly. "Arguing about whether a particular rifle is an assault weapon makes no sense. Worse, it creates the impression among firearm advocates that gun control proponents either don't know what they're talking about or that a ban on assault weapons is actually a precursor to broader prohibition." Yep, yep and yep "Feinstein says her bill will ban the manufacture, sale or transfer of magazines holding more than 10 rounds... to make such a limitation meaningful, Congress would have to ban the possession of large magazines, not jus the sale of new ones... Are lawmakers prepared to send sheriffs and police out to takeaway privately owned magazines exceeding 10 rounds? In the 1990's the answer was no. It's doubtful that's changed. (Imagine being the Texas or Florida cop given that assignment)" Wow, I think this alone could start a 2nd American civil war. Could you imagine if they tried to do this house to house, crazy to think how bad it would get. I'm curious as to what the LEO's would think if they were given this order and what they would do... "At both the federal and state level, there are numerous agencies with mental health infomation that has not been entered into the background check system. The president could remedy that with executive orders..." Oh great and who says that info is accurate to begin with? I don't oppose adding info to the background check database so long as it's correct, but someone's got to assure me it is before I'd sign off on that. Otherwise you just removed 2A from a bunch of folks for no reason... "Then there is the much more daunting challenge of what to do about the unintended legacy of deinstitutionalizing the dangerous mentally ill... As a result, we created a defacto policy of waiting until seriously mentally ill people commit crimes and then consigning them to prison. Over the past half century the number of psychiatric beds in the US has decreased to 43,000 from 559,000..." Well, leave it to the government to take a reactive versus proactive approach to something. But seriously, holy cow, if that last number is even close to true, talk about a ticking time bomb. Just how many mentally ill people are out there that would've been institutionalized in the past??? "Other important research suggests that more effective treatment of the mentally ill can contribute to lower homicide rates" Maybe this is the cynic in me when I say this but... REALLY??? YOU THINK THAT MIGHT HELP LOWER HOMICIDE RATES???!!! "...Dr. Carl Bell, a psychiatrist and professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago... the soft spoken academic interrupted the conversation about the nuances of gun control to point out that random mass shootings are typically suicides augmented with mulitple murders as a way of dramatizing the shooter's pain and self hatred. Copious amounts of research show that media publicity of suicides lead to copy cat crimes... The media, Bell said, should self censor their sensational, detailed coverage of mass shootings." By jove I think he's got it! Take that media, you're the problem! "The bottom line, Stricter background checks are a start, but better care for the mentally ill will be more effective at reducing the number of shooting sprees." I can live with the stricter checks if they are done correctly but the mentally ill health issue does need to be addressed. Does seem like that's the issue rather than a gun issue or even a crime issue.

  14. One thing I want to add is that Sig's has good customer service. About 4 months ago I had an issue with two mags that were over a year old. I sent them to Sig to look at and they sent me two brand new mags to replace them. I only had to pay to ship my original mags to them, which wasn't that much anyways. Pretty easy to deal with, didn't give me any hassles about it. New mags work fine in my P226 Elite in 9mm which I had bought used from another NJGF member. Shoots great!
  15. Been there a few times. Nice place, practically still brand new and nice folks. Not a very big selection of firearms though compared to Cheyenne or Shore Shot in my opinion though they do have some stuff occasionally that you don't see elsewhere. They had a S&W R8 that I grabbed the minute I saw it. Also did one transfer with them for my M1A scout squad that I got over Gunbroker with them and was a breeze. Also had them order me a PX4 Storm which was a snap too. They also sell some accessories as well as bow related items and have a few safes for sale as well. Ammo is a bit pricey in my opinion. Overall a recommend if you were looking for a good gun shop.
  16. I have two lever actions and three bolt actions and like both. But if I had to pick one, I'd go with the lever action but I will say I've got a thing for them since I remember watching westerns growing up and seeing them all use the levers and been enamored with them ever since. So you could say I'm a bit biased in my opinion...
