cigarsnscotch replied to cigarsnscotch's topic in Shotguns
Just as an update, it was indeed the plug (dowel) and I found a helpful youtube vid that showed me how to remove it. Thanks again for your helpful insight.- 9 replies

are personal reference forms required?
cigarsnscotch replied to pjd832's topic in Current New Jersey Gun Laws Discussion
On another note regarding this topic, is it pertinent for the reference (or required for that matter) to be a current resident of NJ? Reason I ask is because I use my best friend who is an Army Ranger, stationed at Ft. Benning GA, but lives right across the state line in Alabama. Just curious. I used him before and had no issues but that was a couple years ago, I know things have changed since then regarding the "firearms" climate. The paperwork does not stipulate it. -
Question for all you shotgun guru's, will this tacstar 6 shot side saddle fit without modification on my mossberg 500 cruiser? http://www.amazon.com/Tacstar-Sidesaddle-Fits-Mossberg-590Da/dp/B001AMZXQI/ref=pd_luc_bxgy_01_01_t_lh?ie=UTF8&psc=1

are personal reference forms required?
cigarsnscotch replied to pjd832's topic in Current New Jersey Gun Laws Discussion
Same here even though when I got my first permit to purchase it was three references I had to put on there but not one of them were called and I got approved within 30 days (2010). Just picked up new paperwork and I see that it's now 2 references, wondering if they will be called this time. Is it different across PD's? -

I purchased a Mossberg 500 Cruiser this past Friday. It has a 5+1 capacity and accepts 2 3/4 and 3" shells. So today I took a trip to my parents house to do some shooting out in the back woods and test my new shotgun out. Here's my issue: I could not get any more than 1 shell in the chamber and 2 in the tube (for a total of 3). It seemed that once I got the first shell in, racked it, the inserted the next two, if I tried to insert a third the shell seemed to stop. I couldn't figure it out but i didn't mess with it. I just shot a box like that. this is the first shotgun of my own so I was wondering if you more knowledgeable folks could lend some thoughts or assistance as to why this might have happened?

+1 Jon for teaching a first time hunter the ropes.
cigarsnscotch replied to woodentoe's topic in Hunting, Fishing & More
I'm going to try and get back into hunting. Used to years ago (like when I was 12, I'm 33 now) with my dad. I'd like to get into it again and hopefully this year's upcoming season my younger half-brothers, dad and I can all get out. I didn't have any friends that hunted growing up so I sort of just grew out of it. I'm slowly returning back to my roots (grew up in the pine barrens). I remember the first deer I shot, which actually was a big 150 lb. 12 pointer, my dad made me drink the blood as "initiation". It was nasty I remember that. But the picture he has of he and I kneeling next to that buck is awesome. I want to go pheasant and turkey hunting. I used to love that! -
What a story! My wife definitely needs to read this (I am trying to get her more comfortable with weapons in the house, more than one). Glad to see that woman succeed in protecting her property and her family. Breaking into a house at 1:00pm, ballsy. This guy needs to leave the planet.

Terrible to hear, too young to die for a stupid reason (not wearing seat belt). RIP.

I'm looking at this from Hogue: http://www.brownells...2745-51612.aspx Ray, I don't want the standard stock. I'll leave my future 870 for that. I'm going to try the Hogue grip and forend and see how I like it without a stock, then go from there. Can someone point me to sling mounts? I don't know what I need to look for. (Would something on this page be right? http://www.brownells.com/shooting-accessories/slings-sling-swivels/shotgun-swivel-sets/index.htm ) Also, if you can recommend a soft case for this I'd appreciate it.

Just picked this up and am real excited about it. I have a couple plans for it but am going to spend a lot of time looking through this thread and gathering ideas. I want to add some contrasting black with the tan, so black grip and fore end. Shot shell carrier Looking at ATI for stock ideas

Just purchased a Mossberg 500 from JT Custom Guns and I want to say it was an excellent transaction experience. Solid FFL and will definitely do business again. He went above and beyond trying to make sure I got my shotgun and hounded NICS for me. A real class act and very knowledgeable! Thanks Jack!

I'm interested but what's the difference between the two? I'm new to shotguns and don't know much about the different shells. I'd purchase the min. I think, maybe 3 or 4 if the price is right.

Seriously that is ridiculous.

It's never going to end, that's the problem. Consider the past, well exactly that. The past. Nothing will be as it was, and it's only going to get worse with newer technology. I just got my license renewed in November and went through that whole "don't smile, just use a normal face" thing. Just know that wherever you drive you're car/license plate is being monitored as well. Police vehicles are being equipped with up to 6 cameras now to take pictures of license plates and uploaded to a huge database, and they say it's for "catching those that owe tickets and such,"yeah ok, don't think so. That may be one reason.

Or just move out of this POS state like me! I can't believe the shit we as residents of this state put up with. -
Greetings from Hamilton! Congrats on being a new dad, it's the best thing in the world. I have a daughter who is 16 months old.

I hope so since I just purchased a mossberg 500 and the NICS call will go in tomorrow. Hoping I will luck out and it will go through and I can go pick it up.

Is *Insert any semi automatic shotgun* legal in NJ?
cigarsnscotch replied to vladtepes's topic in Shotguns
I agree with that, however I am late to the game on purchasing an AR and right now does not look like it's going to happen with all that's going on. So shorty is my next avenue.
