  1. What's a "BSG"?? Don't get hung up on all the jargon. I was a little hung up on all the details & jargon as well when I first started. Don't think if it as "overwhelming"....think of it as "challenging". I believe the Anderson lowers that Steve at Monmouth Arms has are the plain, vanilla, boring, basic lowers. I have an Anderson lower. I think it's the same type that Steve is selling. I wish I had purchased mine from him....I paid double what he is asking (don't get any ideas about raising your prices Steve!). Read through my thread. I have pics, videos and asked a ton of questions which may be some of the same questions you have. Maybe it will put you more at ease. Nothing wrong with purchasing off the shelf though. Personally, I learned a great deal from reading on the net, watching Youtube reviews, and fellow forum members. I also just wanted to see if I could do it. It's easy.....especially if you are just building the lower and purchasing a completed upper.
  2. If I can do it......ANYONE can do it. Read up a little, discuss here and ask as many questions you can think of ....and then ask a few more! You'll get good feedback, suggestions and input. http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/64490-good-entry-level-off-the-shelf-buy/
  3. Dropped the kids off at school and shot up 287 to 84 to 17. Quick stop at Davis Sporting Good and I'm now good to go! http://www.davissport.com/index.asp
  4. I hope my Ruger GP100 doesn't find out I said this.......but if I could have only one it would be the CZ 75B.
  5. Have you tried a CZ 75....the gun the Baby Eagle is based on? Excellent ergonomics, extremely reliable, all steel (soaks up recoil), very accurate, more aftermarket parts/support and a near cult like following? Not to throw you for another curve, but I would highly recommend you rent or borrow someone's CZ 75 and check it out before making a purchase. The only regret I've ever read or heard about of in regards to CZs is when some one sells theirs...... That being said, I would go with the 9mm. Generally more available, less costly, less recoil, and you shot it very well!
  6. Guess I'll be taking a drive to NY on Tuesday during my day off....
  7. Hello, welcome and hope your FID arrives in time for the Black Friday sales! What are you thinking about purchasing?
  8. Planning on going hunting in NY. Is it possible to get a license locally in NJ or do I have to physically go to NY to obtain one?
  9. Heat is a great movie but it def isn't an action or gun flick. Yes, there is one excellant gun fight but it is a very small part of the movie. It's more a movie about the moral code the characters live by, how that dedication effects their lives and what happens when they collide. Great character driven movie with powerful performances. How was the movie besides lots of guns to look at?
  10. As long as it isn't packed and the weather is nice the GA lawn seats are great. I haven't been in some time put always went with the lawn seats. Lots of large screens set up all around so you feel much closer than you are. What band are you going to see? If they still have the seasoned Boardwalk Fries they are delicious!
  11. Where was this? I would have hit the gas as well and called the cops.
  12. Get the Smith. You won't rever regret it. And I'm a Ruger guy!
  13. What's that? A complete rifle, barrel only or complete upper?
  14. Build it! Only reason I put a brake on mine is b/c it's the law (14.5 in barrel). If I were building a longer range shooter I would concentrate on a higher quality barrel. Where are we going to be shooting 300 yards?
  15. Congrats on the forth coming addition.. I have 2 girls. Was slightly terrified of the idea of having a baby girl. Guess what, they are incredible! I would wait until she is older. What happens if she doesn't like shooting? Took me over a year to get my oldest (12) to come with me. She doesn't like loud noises and is very much a girlie, girlie. Didn't want to make her go and if never went that was fine. She eventually came along and had a wonderful time. I would stock up on 22 ammo. By the time she is old enough you may actually have enough!
  16. You obviously haven't purchased a CZ yet..... Took my cousin with me to EFGA a few weeks ago. Didn't even know is he had a gun. Turns out he has a Glock. I tried his and honestly it wasn't too bad. He tried all mine. He shot the GP100 quite a bit. Toward the end of our range visit he said he never thought about purchasing a revolver but that he really enjoyed it more than he thought he would. After shooting my AR he said, "I gotta get one of these!".
  17. Here's our response to their proposed opportunity to purchase a new microwave at their "discounted" price: Thank you for your prompt response. We are more than slightly disappointed in GE's "discounted" offer. As previously mentioned we have purchased many GE appliances for our personal homes and the 2 rental properties that we own. Our last purchase was the microwave in question and a matching slate dishwasher. We have Hotpoint stoves in each of our rental units, GE countertop microwaves and use Reveal light bulbs. My husband's father worked for GE for over 20 years. He grew up with GE everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. Dishwashers, washer/dryers, ovens, boom boxes & walkmans (don't know if you are old enough to remember those), light bulbs, cordless phones, televisions, etc, etc. When one of his relatives needed a new appliance they all called his father to purchase one from GE because of two things. The first was his father's employee discount and the second was GE's sterling reputation. Similar to ourselves, many of his relatives have continued to trust and purchase GE products during their lives. We realize that GE has recently exited the consumer products area selling the division to Electrolux. However, we would like to believe that GE and Electrolux stand behind their products and their loyal customers. If this is indeed the best that can be done then we will have no other choice but to reconsider which company's products we look at when making future appliance purchases. My husband has already voiced his concern about the problem and the poor proposed solution on Facebook. We hope that a better solution can be found and we can soon update all our friends, family and co-workers that GE and Electrolux stand behind their products and support their loyal customers on the rare occasion when a problem with one of their product occurs.
  18. So the repair person came out earlier this week. Do you have any of the GE Slate above the range style that you need to move? Model number is JVM6175EF1ES. I may take you up on the offer. http://www.searsoutlet.com/d/inventory_details.jsp?cid=8059&pid=118485&mode=buyUsedOnly&to=cart&pn=1&ps=10&disp=sel&ffmChannelDelModeInApp=SFS&deals=No&itemSelectionType=Reconditioned%20/%20Refurbished&adcell=InvenTabReconditioned&zip=08812 Long story short, repairman came out, said it would be replaced. Next day we received a phone call saying GE wanted to give us the "opportunity" to purchase a new one at a "discounted" price. The "discounted" price was about $20 less than we purchased it for. When my wife called she explained what happened. I had left the tray in while microwaving a bag of popcorn when the arcing occurred. I had just woke up after I feel asleep for a bit. My 8 yr old wanted me to lay down with her to help her go to sleep b/c she had a bad dream the night before. I conked out for about an hour. I woke up and had a craving for some popcorn. Still half asleep, I put the bag in and hit start. I didn't even notice the tray was there. Short time after the bag started expanding the tray must have been pushed up and the arcing occurred. Neither my wife or I knew this would void the warranty. We have purchased several GE appliances over the years for our homes and our two rental properties. Many of those have been GE appliances. I'm a little disappointed this is the way GE choices to treat any customer, especially a long time customer. I'll be writing them an email this evening explaining my disappointment and giving them the opportunity to retain a long time client.
  19. Next time the power goes out, I'll be at the same place I was the last time (Sandy) the power went out. At my inlaws. They have a hard wired, whole house back up generator. Wife will have already packed up our freezer and moved contents to her parents.
  20. Was just curious what reaction you get from people when you tell them you are a gun owner. When I purchased my first gun, a Ruger GP100, my wife didn't want me discussing it, especially with any of our childrens friends parents. She was worried they wouldn't allow their kids over to the house for playdates. We would be socializing (Bday parties, school fundraisers, etc) and someone would mention firearms. First time we were at a friends 40th Bday party and at the kitchen table with several couples. One person was talking about how they had been clay shooting recently. I inquired if they owned a shotgun or hunted and we began talking. They didn't own one or hunt but were interested in getting one but had been told it was virtually impossible to buy a gun in NJ. Other people at the table said they too were interested in possible purchasing a firearm but had no idea how to do go about it and had also heard it was too difficult and not worth the time/hassle or that it costs a lot of money to apply to get a gun. I just looked at my wife and she said, "Fine.....go ahead." Everyone looked at me and I told them we had recently purchased our first handgun. I explained the process and that it wasn't difficult or expensive at all. Other times people will ask what I did this past weekend. I'll tell them the usual "worked around the yard, ran errands, watched this or that." Some times I include, " I meet some friends and went shooting in Easton." This opens the door to door for queations. I get asked a lot if I hunt? I tell them not yet but that I recently got my hunters license and am looking forward to it. Some people who are a little surprised I tell, "Well I did live in Texas for 10 years." For some reason this seems to remove some of the negativity, at least in my perception, from them. They usually reply, "Oh, that explains it." That is kind of strange. The only slightly negative response was from a woman who immediately asked if I had a safe. As soon as I told her my safe was larger than her she was fine with the idea. For the most part the reactions I've received are positive and people want to know more about the process of how to apply, where to buy one, where to get lessons, etc. Was curious as to what reactions others who willingly share their hobby/gun ownership receive from people.
  21. Congrats. It's a fine looking gun. I'm sure you'll be very happy with it. Once you are comfortable with your gun and 38 versus 357 ammo try this popular training drill. Leave one or several of the chambers empty, spin the cylinder closing it after it stops spinning and begin shooting. This will help you notice your flinch reflex. When the hammer drops on the empty chamber you"ll see how much your are flinching. Helps to reduce your flinch refex which will help you stay more on target for follow up shots. Be safe & enjoy!
  22. I like the "You give peace a chance. I'll cover you." bumper sticker.
  23. I've had a Panasonic plasma tv for prob 7 years now. No problems. It gets watched A LOT between my wife and kids. If I had to guess I would say it is on 5-6 hours a day. Mostly its constantly on when they are home. Maybe our's has lasted b/c it hardly ever gets shut of!
  24. $350 for a nice used bike!? This post makes me want to start looking for a bike! I've spent close to that on ammo in one purchase. FANTASTIC deal. I don't have much advice but I can tell you don't be afeaid to start out smaller. My first and only bike was a Honda CME 450 back in the early 80s. Speedometer only went up to 85 but there were a "few" times I may have had it wrapped back around to 10 or 15 mph. It was plenty fast, was easy to manuever, easy to pick up the once of twice I dropped it and still looked nice. Of course I was 14, lived in Kansas at the time and hardly ever drove on a major interstate. I would recommend going to a motorcycle store, sitting on a few different style bikes and find one that you feel comfirtable on. Once you have the style down, take a safety course, borrow a friends bike to get your mc license and then start test driving specific bikes. Good luck, be safe and enjoy!
