  1. Holy Fast shipping from MidwayUSA. Ordered some ammo late at night on 10/25 (a Friday night) and was here on 10/31 (Thursday afternoon). That's PDQ (pretty darn quick!). 6 boxes of 32 caliber ammo for $17.49 each. shipping was almost $16. I wanted to order more but my money tree has not quite reached maturity and isn't producing any fruit just now. With no tax and $10 off coupon right about $18.50 a box...not too horrible.
  2. Can't he just carry around a double barrel shotgun!? JK, JK. He has the right to bear arms but depending on which state he is "residing" he maybe in violation of that particular state's laws.....which are more than likely in violation of the Constitution. If he lives in NJ he is going to jail.
  3. Already have plans for this Saturday. Hopefully there will a 2nd one in November.
  4. I purchased a Ruger GP100 about 5 months ago. After putting several hundred rounds through it the tigger is much smoother now. I highly recommend the Ruger. I've seen them on Slickguns.com for around $550 which includes shipping. The Smith and Wesson 686 is very nice as well. Trigger is suppossed to be very smooth right out of the box without any break in time. I wouldn't rule out a Taurus either but I have never shot one so I can't really comment on them too much. It really comes down to what are you looking to spend and what do you want to use it for?
  5. From my readings I believie it occured some time ago before Anthony opened the range and he was training on a one-on-one basis. Anthony, sorry that horrible experience every happed to you. Sucks.
  6. AlexM, it was a pleasure meeting you and I hope we get a chance to shoot together some time in the future. Thanks for showing me the EAA Witness Match Elite. I'm not going to rave about what a great, low recoil shooter it is with a smoothe as silk trigger because I might let the secret out of the bag. Very nice gun. I do believe this is getting added to my collection. As far as my concern about the ergos goes, the handle is slightly wider than my CZ 75B but still very comfortable. Alex assured me you can purchase different grips to make the grib a little narrower or wider if you like. Thanks again!
  7. Smokin .50, most.private clubs are more than likely fillled with veteran shooters who are much more familiar with firearm safety. Shooting at a private club is certainly your right and privlege to fully enjoy but ask yourself is it helping any of the problems you have encountered? I'm sure you have probably helped lots of newbies in your time but your attitude of "I belong to a private club where nothing bad ever occurs and it is so much bette and safer than any public range." kind of sucks. I happen to enjoy shooting at Heritage and think they run a first class place. I've taken my wife there and wouldn't hesitate to take any friends who have never handled a gun before there. One thing I do is to try to be alert as possible to my surroundings when at the range. At the very lest I acknowledge people in the ports next to me with a friendly nod when entering. At an appropriate and safe time I'll usually say hello and "Watcha' shooting?". If they don't want to chat thats fine, but generally it's the opposite and I've had many nice conversations with someone who was a complete stranger up until a few moments before. If they are a new shooter I tell them if they need anything or have any questions to feel free to ask. Often I've switched ports and let someone try my guns while I try theirs. When leaving I thank them and tell them it was nice chatting/meeting them and maybe we'll see each other again. I understand you love your private range and want to attract new members but I don't see how your comments or attitude help new shooters or the firearms community.
  8. While the idea of having an employee with you at all times sounds like a good idea unfortunetly it won't stop somoeone from doing this if that is their intention. Think about the time it takes to do it. 2 or 3 seconds maybe? There is almost always a RO there on the firing line, sometimes more than one. ROs are there to help guide newbies safely through the process, answer questions and reduce the risks involved by keeping an eye on things, as is ever shooter on the firing line to some degree. The biggest safety feature is the one between everyones ears. Heritage Guild makes you sign 2 pages of waivers and watch a safety video prior to shooting there. This is not only to protect themselves but also educate everyone to the possible dangers and risks they may be exposing themselves to once they enter a range. In the video it stresses activities that are dangerous and reminds you that ANYONE can call a cease fire and that everyone on the range is responsible for safety. I don't think the story is being covered up. Suicides happen multiple times a day. Unless the persone is someone of some type of news worthy importance why should this one get any more news coverage? The antis don't have much to profit from by trying to make an issue out of this story. A person, by their own actions, ended their life and didn't harm any one else. Sad? Yes, absolutely. But how is it different than someone using a razor blade, pills or walking in front of a train (which has happened several times this year between NJ Transit and NYC subways)? Those stories get reported and then on to the next horrible piece of news. It's the mental illness that is the problem/issue and not how someone ended tbeir life.
  9. Apply for at least 2 permits......just in case. 3 permits can be tricky b/c you can only purchase 1 handgun every 30 days and permits are only good for 90 days, without an extension (if your PD will even extend them).
  10. So........when we doing it again? My friend who couldn't make it on the 12th is itching to shoot some clays. And me too!
  11. Yep, have to complete all the paperwork again incuding the personal references.....stinks (and I agree that it ns pretty absurd) but those are the rules. Maybe ask if they can do a phone interview for your referals or maybe just use the ones on file? Can't hurt to ask. Good luck. What are you thinking about purchasing for a handgun?
  12. Few months ago one of the ROs I was chatting with said they have over 3,000 members. Getting all members to take a 2 hours class, especially those who have been long time members, is a logistics nightmare and not all that realistic. While I'm still a newbie, it seems the rules are pretty straight forward and mostly common sense and common courtesy. They are posted on the website and I think shortened reminders are posted in shooting areas. A good idea may be to have short videos created simulating areas of concern and posting them to the website for anyone to review. While I've only been a member for about 3 months I've had nothing but great experiences at EFGA and am looking forward to having many more. I try to get out there about twice a month. May be heading out there this weekend depending on if I can kick this chest cold.
  13. Just wait unti you shoot one. THEN you will really, really want one.
  14. An entire city that's population is 20% addticted to heroin.......scary. The things people do to themselves is incomprehensible.
  15. Revolvers are probably the easiest gun to shoot. I'm sure single actions are available. I understand what you are saying about the light weight issue.....never really occured to me that a carry/concealable gun could be "too" light weight. If I were the young man becoming an officer I would probably first find out what that department's rules are and then ask some of the officers there what they recommend.
  16. Light, hammer-less revolver. I held one the other day and I swear my cell phone almost weighed almost the same (the gun was unloaded though). Something like a Ruger LCR or Smith and Wesson J-Frame. Congratulations and good luck to your son.
  17. My thought and prayers to the person who thought that this was their only way out and to the range officer(s) and others who witnessed it. It's a shame that people are thinking about how this will effect them....seriously?
  18. What is your opinion on the conversion kits? Many problems (fail to feed/fail to eject, etc) or do they work pretty well? I've heard many 22 conversion kits can be very ammo picky or just down right suck. How are the larger caliber conversion kits? PM sent.
  19. Purchse with 17 round mag and send to FFL that will make them NJ cpmpliant by blocking or pinning them. Prob cost about $10-$15 per mag. Cheaper than buying new ones.
  20. Thanks for the offer! See you shoot at Old Bridge Rifle & Pistol Club. That's not too far from me. Let me know if you have some time Saturday or Sunday morning an would love to try it out. Main concern is the grips. I have smaller hands. CZ 75B fits me my hands great but the Witness looks a little bulkier. Just want to make sure it's not too bulky.
  21. Just sent a forum member simple called "Max" a PM. Doesn't appear to be very active on the forums as they have no post so hopefully it is the right "Max" and they receive it. Thanks for the heads up & let me know if I have the incorrect "Max".
