  1. I have no qualms with that at all, but I did create a thread about the Edison cop fiasco (the initial reports where the guy torched his boss's house while they slept), and it was deleted within hours. That was about one specific cop on a town force that has a long history of behavioral issues. I don't think that attempts to paint every officer in the state as maniacs.
  2. So how does that work? If all of my guns have been legally purchased in NJ, they must know exactly what I have in the house, right? All that paperwork at point of sale doesn't go in the shredder, I'm guessing. So if they sent a team house by house with a big list in hand, would they know exactly what they want handed over by serial number (or type and model, or whatever)? What if in theory I had previously dropped off everything at my cousin's house in PA and nothing is left for the team to grab? What about the terrible boat accident scenario? Would they rifle through every inch of my house to check for themselves? That could take days, as there are quite a few good hiding places, not to mention the Mossberg water-tight canister, good for submersion or burial.
  3. I saw one store had a large poster on the wall behind the pistol display counter that had a picture of smiling Barry with the caption "Our top salesman" lol!
  4. This is an excellent suggestion for several reasons: 1) Crossing the river might be tough, and who is to say it won't be just as bad over there? I have a friend in the Pconos with the perfect place - secluded, self-powered, feedstock and farm crops - but getting through 100 miles of potential roadblocks could be a big problem. 2) That said, many of our houses are poorly defendable. Food raiders can access from all sides if you live in a typical burb house like mine. Easier to have strength in numbers that you can rely on. 3) Most everyone on this forum is heavily armed, so what better group to form a defensive clan?
  5. As an aside, I had a college teacher who wrote a book solely about the Turnpike. An interesting read, but one factoid he uncovered was that the engineers who designed the road did so with 75mph cruising speed in mind for cars with 1970 handling characteristics. The curve radius, elevation change, etc. On the other hand, I live on a residential road set at 30mph. Since the road is a popular pass-through from one town to the next, commuters think nothing of doing 60. Or worse if they think they can floor it to catch the brief green light at the end. The kids play basketball in the driveway, and sometimes the ball gets tipped down the driveway and into the street. Here comes speed racer, and you can imagine the rest of the tale.
  6. Saw that on gunbot. What do you guys think of the steel case? I hear people who hate it and those who don't care (heck, it's a lot cheaper). Is it just a matter of cleaning more often?
  7. There is a converted silo in the midwest that a developer was transferring into around 12 condos with a few common areas. Asking price per unit was up to $2million. Stocked with 5 years of food for 40 people. Great bug-out place if you can get out to Kansas on short notice.
  8. You are right in that he was chosen by some of his constituents, but not all. But he was simply available to be chosen by illegal ruling of a Liberal state supreme court ruling bypassing a long-standing law that says "No candidate shall be replaced inside of X days before the election" Period. But they did it anyway. Aside from Mister Lauternberg's lack of doing anything but collecting his pay, aside from the occasional photo op, he also took a long nap while we as residents suffer the worst return on investment in the entire country (or one of the worst).
  9. I'd gladly give my vote out to any broker stopping by with a few bucks. As it is, I waste my time driving to the poll anyway for nothing. As to Frank's seat, let's get the Torch in there to babysit for 5 months, lol. Or maybe Corzine has some free time these days, not being indicted and all. I wonder how payroll works. Frank has been drawing a fat salary for decades now. Does someone in DC shut off the pay cycle upon learning of the death?
  10. Currently I have a Mossy 500 Mariner 5+1 pump action. It is a short barrel with a pistol grip. Nothing fancy. I was in there for some ammo, and browsing the shelves. A few of the 12ga pump guns looked nice, with stocks and in some cases the extra shell storage on the stock. Prices ranged all over the place. I can't afford the Benellis right now, and they are a little too long anyway. Does it make sense to get another Mossy 500 or something else? I'll do a $300+ item if it is decent, but once over $500+ for a shotty, I start to wonder what I need this for, if that makes sense. Your thoughts?
  11. Mak, apologies as I didn't read beyond Page 1 yet, but if you need cheaper hosting, I may have a solution. I own a car site with a friend who has pretty big server capacity for his family business. We dovetail on that and I just pay the $10 a year for the IP registration. PM me if you want to explore the options. Back on topic, sort of, Bucket 3 is a fun place to hang out. Most of us are relatively local, so there are many topics that are of interest to us that are more specific than a national forum, aside from the gun threads.
  12. My wife asked "why do you need guns?" I answered her question with a question "Why do you go ice skating every weekend in the winter?" She shut up and left the room. Point taken.
  13. Lol, I looked up the site and watched their PSA. About halfway through, one guy says "stop high capacity magazines from killing our kids" I've been watching my mags for weeks now out of the corner of my eye, and not once did they even move. Bastards won't even load themselves. To hell with PMags!
  14. Fine by me. Maybe our bathrooms will be cleaner.
  15. As a side question, who knew that Bloomberg had an office in DC (who pays for that?) And how did "irate gun owner" know there was an office there?
  16. Firstly, I never understtod why someone would turn in a good gun without just selling it. Old, clueless to the concept of selling? I don't know. Busted gun not worth repairing? That one I get, but serves no purpose in the end. I give kudos to the guy that woke up and realized that melting down just for the sake of appearance is a dumb idea. Sell them off at a discount, and then the dealer can resell to licensed owners. The dealers will offer what they think the guns are worth at wholesale, so any busted up pieces will eventually go into the pot. If somebody is dumb enough to turn in a $1000 gun for their $200 turn-in reward, eff em. Somebody else's gain.
  17. Jack Reacher is worth the watch, but as someone who has read every book in the series, it was unlike the actual character in any way. Obviously Tom Cruise is slightly different than the book character - a 6'5 265 mountain of muscle, a loner who wanders around the country solving mysteries and beating up thugs. I emailed Lee Child (the author), and he replied that he was thrilled with the casting choice (sure...$$$$$)
  18. So I think I mentioned it before...my back neighbor's trees fell down during the storm right on top of my chain-link fence (3 of them). I found out the hard way that it was my problem unless I could prove she knew the trees were a menace (they were not in good health). But since the trees were long gone, no way to prove anything. She stopped by a month or so later to inform me that it was my problem, basically giving me the finger in a polite way. I have a $500 deductible on my own insurance, so I figured I'd be eating the cost 100%. How much could a few sections of metal top rail cost to replace? I called my insurance to report the damage, and they were nice enough to send along their appraiser, a general contractor they use all the time. He came out and did a thorough analysis with pictures and measurements. Then a few days later, the insurance adjuster called and told me the number came in at $2600. I said "holy cow, what for??". She said for replacement of 115 feet of fence (the entire back run). And then she said his estimate includes his profit margin and he'd just farm it out to a sub. The check for $2100 will arrive in a week and I could hire anyone I wanted. So I did. Called a local fence repair company and they came right out and fixed up everything really nicely for about $700 (which included some other repairs I needed done, since they were there anyway). This is my only insurance claim in over 20 years, so I'm happy with the outcome. But the wife is still pissed off that the neighbor never even offered to help out in any way. Since the storm, the neighbor had a complete re-landscaping done (with new trees), plus a new underground sprinkler system installed. A couple hundred $ would not have killed her as a goodwill gesture. I can't really complain, as I came out ahead on the whole thing, but I'm still not in the mood to even turn my head when the neighbor is puttering in her garden (10 feet from mine).
  19. In the trailer, they show the metal security doors (and I'd assume windows too). How did the masked people get inside? I guess I'll have to watch the ful movie, lol Probably some dumbass sitting on the 'disarm' button.
  20. Is this any Section 8 (or equivalent) housing or just a tenant building with common areas? Then again, who would ever know? My Beretta carry case looks exactly like my Craftsman 18-volt drill carry case.
  21. I don't live in Edison, so it is their problem. The point is that if I firebombed my boss's house, I likely would not retain my salary. But in Edison, anything goes.
  22. I'm not bashing cops. I'm pasting a story that repeats itself over and over if you frequent the Star Ledger. Edison PD has had major issues for 20 years now. Political scandals, corruption scandals, and now firebombing scandals. 118k is not deserved (not to mention the overtime and benefits not reported). Sorry if it offends you, but you aren't worth that cost.
  23. Meh. You aren't going to change Terry's mind. He argues that other states need to document purchases more stringently. Fine, go campaign in Ohio then, Terry. I can make a straw purchase of a kilo of coke in Texas, then drive it to NJ as well. Terry is a feeble-minded Progressive who has no clue about guns.
  24. Again with this organization in the news: http://www.nj.com/middlesex/index.ssf/2013/05/edison_police_officer_charged.html Guy makes $118k? Really? Edison must be the worst place to be a taxpayer in the state.
  25. My solution is low tech, but it works. I buy one of those orange Home Depot buckets and a bag of quickrete. Drop the gun inside, with the cement, and a gallon of water. Safe and secure until I need it. And for that, I keep a chisel in my nightstand. Seriously though, are there not places to stash your weapon that are very difficult to locate unless a thief had 10 unfettered hours to ransack the entire place? How often does this happen in NJ?
