  1. I have both the VP9 and PPQ M1 9mm. I have about 1000 rounds on the VP9, 300 on the PPQ. I prefer the VP9 mainly for ergonomic reasons. I rarely shoot the PPQ these days. VP9 pros - Greater ability to customize grip given the removable side plates. This is important to me because I have absurdly short fingers, but medium palms. This allows me to configure a really short reach to the trigger for my strong hand, but fill out the grip for a more comfortable hold for my support hand. If you have "standard" hands, this might not mean anything to you. - I find the mag release for the VP9 to be more ergonomic and easier to manipulate compared to the PPQ. I use my trigger finger for the VP9, but for the PPQ, I find it requires more effort to activate the lever, and I need to use my middle finger to get more leverage. - Less "flippy" for me compared to the PPQ PPQ - Slightly better trigger. Although my experience is similar to Lunker in that it's almost too good. Really short reset and flippiness has led to unintentional double-taps. Again, this is something that training can address, but why bother when I have a bunch of other guns that I don't need to "train" for. - If carrying is being considered, smaller frame is an advantage to the VP9.
  2. I seriously doubt it. I sent an email/letters on the NJ2AS announcement, and I'll be sending a set on this.
  3. As far as stores to buy from, I've had positive experiences from Karl's Appliances, if there's one near you. A salesman once rubbed me the wrong way, I sent an e-mail to their website to complain. The CEO called me personally to apologize and assure he'd take care of me. They will also price match competitor sale prices.
  4. You can rent motorized stair climbing handtrucks that make things a lot easier. While it helps to have another person or two just in case, I was able to move a smaller 10 gun safe myself with minimal wall damage (maneuvering through narrow landings is tough when you don't know what you're doing, lol). I'm pretty sure I could have handled a larger safe without problem (though I'm sure I'd have scarred my walls near the landings even worse) You'll just need to practice going up and down stairs a bit before loading the safe on just so you get the hang of it. They might be far for you, but www.arearentalsinc.com in Union county has them, and will also do a 1/2 day rate.
  5. Any thoughts on an aimpoint pro versus an eotech 512 for a cqb rifle?
  6. From what I understand, the cases to be watching now are the two California cases: Peruta v San Diego and Richards v Prieto. I believe they're the next two likely to take a shot at being heard by SCOTUS.
  7. Personally, if I only had one gun I'd want to keep it in one location. That way if I'm ever in a situation where it's needed I know exactly where to find it. If you want to be prepared in different locations without carrying in a holster, buy more guns. But if you really want a portable safe solution, check out the following: http://vlineind.com/ProductDetail.php?product_id=29 You can buy additional brackets to mount beneath or on top of various surfaces, and no batteries to worry about.
  8. Just curious, I was in a shop in PA that had certain ammo with signs on the shelf that it was for sale to LEO only. Anyone know what that's about?
  9. I have firearms scattered across four locations (soon to be five when I get an appropriate pistol safe). Making a guess as to the two most likely locations I'd need to arm myself, I have a P229 and VP9 with weaponlights placed as my "go to" guns. I've made it sort of a late new year's resolution to become more proficient in long arms and would like to eventually look to my AR to fill a role.
  10. Thanks all In the back of my mind I was wondering if there was a point with an ambi safety for a right-handed shooter, and you just answered that question! I think I might go with the BAD ambi safety, try a crank for the left side and regular length safety for the right and just see which works better.
  11. I have trouble reaching the safety due to short thumbs. I was looking at adding a Battle Arms Development "crank" lever, but now I'm also seeing short-throw safety levers as an option. It isn't clear to me, but do you need a special lower to use the short-throw levers, or can they be made to work in any lower?
  12. For the NJSP and Gov's office, I put in the subject line "Recommendations for New Jersey Administrative Code (NJAC)" or something to that effect, and just copied the original post beginning with "We are asking". For Pro Gun New Hampshire, see below. I know it's a lot, and I don't if they're going to read it all. Now that I re-read it, some of the wording is awkward. But maybe if enough people send something maybe they'll take note. If someone wants to change it or make something shorter, feel free.
  13. Pistol permits are $2, but FID is $5. I believe they're capped by statute, but I'll let someone else confirm.
  14. There's another bill that's also been introduced https://www.govtrack.us/congress/bills/114/hr402
  15. The $18 is for the NJSP background check, not the mental health check. On your initial application, the fingerprinting (and related fees) covers your initial NJSP background check. It's only on subsequent applications where you get charged the $18 for later background checks.
  16. I got a membership card, but not for a long time after signing up. Something on the order of a number of months. I did get tons of junk mail in the meanwhile...
  17. NJ2AS is apparently working on voter-related initiatives. If they follow through on plans for a Sweeney recall effort you can bet I'm driving down to Gloucester county to gather signatures.
  18. Just sent e-mails to Governor, NJSP, and also to Pro Gun New Hampshire. I figure PGNH helped us out before, maybe they can help again. Here's the PGNH contact page: http://pgnh.org/contact I'll be mailing out letters tomorrow.
  19. Your'e good. You could have picked it up yesterday (1/22) if you wanted.
  20. It's the exact same process, with the only difference being which box you check on the NJSP application. As far as writing to references and fingerprints, it varies by PD. Some will go through the whole process while others don't bother.
  21. I ended up going wth the LCP because 1) cheaper 2) extremely light and pocketable. I didn't bother trying out the P238 or Glock 42, because I was already happy witht he LCP and I was afraid I'd enjoy them more and end up paying the $100-$200 premium. I figure ignorance is bliss, lol. If I end up moving (which is a possibility this year), then I'll start vetting the 380 category a little more thoroughly. I didn't originally want a laser, but I picked up one from CDNN with the viridian laser because it was so cheap. It also has a magnet activiated power switch that turns on as soon as you draw from the holster. In case anyone is interested, PSA has the LCP in FDE for only $240.

If you're going from a VP9 to an XD/M&P, I think that's going to be a big step down in trigger quality. You might want to figure in the cost of trigger work/replacement. Also, it looks like XD is going to start revamping their entire line (at least the base XD line), so you might want to consider holding off there. On the other hand, it might mean a good opportunity to pick up the original XD pistols on the cheap, especially if you're going to have work done on it anyways.
  23. I think it's fine. How can it be constructive intent if he doesn't have the parts to assemble a full magazine? Otherwise, everyone in possession of a full auto BCG would be facing charges. But if it turns out I'm wrong, I'll happily contribute a few bucks to OP's legal fees.
  24. I've wondered about Bhunted's question myself many times. I've done dry runs going through the house with a drawn weapon at night to simulate investigating suspicious noises, but I don't know what is I should be practicing. For example, I don't know the proper way to navigate stairways, go around corners and clear rooms. I've been thinking of reaching out to RTSP to see if I'm can arrange for a lesson on building clearing using their shoot house.
