  1. I'll see your bet and raise it, lol...actually, it sounds waaay over the top to me, like it's adding NO serious value to have a judge involved in the process at all, and even worse, by making these judges act essentially as a "rubber stamp" - it's taking their time away from focusing on other more important legal matters. They either need to get the courts out of the process altogether - or reserve them only for very limited, escalated cases where the police have some reasonable questions or concerns about the applicant and want a judge to weigh in. This current process seems utterly ridiculous. As a taxpayer, I hate to see waste and inefficiency like this.
  2. Now, now... I don't dislike him per se. I'm merely disappointed, that's all. And only about this one issue. I'm sure CHEFSCE is quite marvelous in many other ways. I mean, I actually like several of you inferior pork rollers (even including yourself, might I add) despite that one glaring, obviously flawed and incorrect belief you all share that contributes to said inferiority....
  3. Done! And thanks, @g17owner, for posting this important announcement! As a sidenote, I find it DEEPLY offensive that our legislators schedule these hearings with such apparent randomness and lack of proper notice --- cutting short people's ability to register their opposition. Infuriating!
  4. Welcome! Happy to have you here (even though it's Taylor Ham). You'll certainly find a lot of opportunities for discussion, learning, and the occasional meet up as well. Welcome aboard!
  5. Oh, lighten up @Scorpio64! I kid, I kid...
  6. And just that quickly... Lil' B Gem was BANNED from NJGunForums!
  7. @B Gem - pls don't believe the insidious lies of Scorpio64! He is a scoundrel and not to be trusted. I'm not here to hurt you... in fact, I'm a helper! You are safe with me. Listen to my gentle pleas... your initial inclinations were, in fact, correct! That delicious breakfast treat we have known and loved all our lives? It IS Taylor Ham. It IS!! Now, My Little Gem... repeat after me: Taaaaylor Haaaammmm... TAAAAYLOR HAAAAAMMMM!!! See those delish chubby Taylor Hams forming, and now swirling and frolicking through your mind's eye? Let's count them all... backwards, starting from 100... 99... 98... your eyes are growing heavy... so heavy... don't be afraid! Give in... come back to the light... come back to your fellow Hamsters! We love you... we miss you! You are one of us. One of us... (--- Oh, yeah... and welcome to the Forums! ) Mrs. Peel (She/Her/Hamster)
  8. Yup! I've lived in this house for 16 years... just bought a cord of wood for the first time. I'm going "old school", lol... because I can't even imagine what the fuel costs will be like. Last winter was bad enough. Now it's just CRAZY. I think I'll just leave my thermostat low and try to maximize the woodburning stove.
  9. I know many of you hate Facebook. I don't like it much either and use it rarely. But if your town has a Facebook page (or perhaps that competitor service, Nextdoor), I have to admit, local town social media pages really are great for situations exactly like your current conundrum. On the rare occasions I need to locate a service or product in my local area (like most recently - a firewood supplier, and a chimney sweep), I post the question to my town's very busy Facebook page and "voila" - within a few hours people are chiming in with helpful recommendations. Once I see several people recommending the same supplier - now I know where to start. It really is extremely helpful for stuff like that. Actually, it's the only reason I still keep a Facebook account, as I never post anything to my own personal page. Anyway, you might want to explore that, if you haven't already. Edit: this article might help too - might take a little online digging and calls though - https://frugalreality.com/gas-stations-that-sell-kerosene-near-me/
  10. ... ah, yes... phrasing! I don't disagree that a small group is less intimidating... but my original point was that some of these ladies' shooting groups are a great opportunity to try a WHOLE BUNCH of guns, because you've got maybe a dozen shooters there, each with her own firearm (or more). So, you can try on a bunch for size with no rental fees. I think that's the advantage of a bigger group, especially if you're driving a distance. This group is so new at SCFGPA - last month there was a dozen, the month before?... I was alone, lol. - the month before that, there were 5. It's all over the map. It takes a while I think to get them established. Once it's more consistent, I'll regularly be inviting people.
  11. @kc17 - not sure if Tactical Training Center (TTC) is too far, but fyi, they also have a very active chapter of The Well-Armed Woman. I believe (don't quote me, call TTC and check if this is still the case), but at one point over the last year or 2, they were also the regular meeting site for the NJ chapter of A Girl and A Gun (another nationwide women's shooting group). Yikes, it seems these ladies shooting groups seem to sprout up and die down in quick fashion sort of like mushrooms, lol...I'm sure it's because it's a lot of work to keep them running. But, if you call TTC - the lady at the reception desk can give you info, I'm sure, as to what women's shooting leagues meet at that range currently. Honestly, I feel bad... I would have been delighted to guest your wife in at the relatively new ladies night shoot at SCFGPA in Bridgewater - but since the event is still rather fledgling, attendance varies greatly month to month. I wouldn't want her to drive all the way to Bridgewater to find out it was just 2-3 of us - that defeats the whole point!
  12. Ohhh, wow... I'm genuinely sorry to hear that! I hadn't been in touch with Sandy for several years, so thank you for chiming in with that update. I guess TWAW is still an option though for kc17's wife.
  13. Truer words were never spoken! LOL. @kc17, don't buy anything she hasn't tried out for at least a full range session... or you're flushing money down the toilet. BTW, while you and your wife are at Weshoot, she might want to inquire at the front desk about The Well-Armed Woman chapter that meets there. Last I knew, they were still having monthly meeting at that very range - not sure if they're open to guests at the moment, but if so, it would be a room full of women, many with the same issues (small hands, weak hands, turned off by too much hot brass or recoil, etc.) - so chances are, there would be a LOT of good firearm options in the room that night for a woman shooter... and those groups tend to be very friendly about "try this one, try that one" etc. Another group, Second Amendment Women (SAW), meets in North Jersey at Gun for Hire, but had also started a second chapter somewhere further south as I recall. They have regular Open Shoot nights - where, again, a guest could try out a whole slew of guns owned by other women. Sorry I don't have their contact info anymore, but you could probably contact the Gun for Hire range to at least get in contact with SAW's co-founder, Sandy... last name was Muldoon as I recall? Might be worth some inquiries. Edit: just found out they disbanded! see note below.
  14. He was the subject of some quite unfair mockery on the left when he got elected. Because when I listen to him, I hear a remarkably pragmatic AND well-spoken person. Go, Mr. Durr!
  15. I think that's a rational take. Yes, it's their "job" ... and legally it will help us. That said, I wonder if the BPA and their brethren are considering the public relations impact of this recent action? After all, in the recent "defund the police" era - when so much horrific scorn (and even violence) has been wrongly hurled against police - the sort of law-abiding citizen that applies for a carry concealed permit is very often the exact SAME sort of citizen that has been sticking up steadfastly for cops this entire time. How much sense does it make to stoke resentments amongst some of your biggest supporters, particularly when supporters seem to be few and far between these days? Perhaps it was a bit short-sighted from that perspective. It doesn't reduce my respect for the work they do one iota... but it will certainly dampen the enthusiasm of others. That's a shame.
  16. Even worse, his statements (and the whole bill) show a profound (and perhaps purposeful?) ignorance of the realities of crime. How can someone who knows so little about crime be the sponsor of a bill like this? I could show you dozens of crime studies, all from credible sources - Fed, State, universities - and they ALL will show the same damn thing - ex-felons are committing on average about 70% of gun crimes (and other serious crimes too), then the 2nd largest group (another 15-20+% depending on the study) are people who also did something wrong previously (either they had a string of misdemeanors, or they got the gun illegally, etc.). Legal gun owners contribute a scant amount to crime - that's just a fact - most studies show that group to be in the single digits in terms of contributing to crime. They are statistically a non-issue. A bill like this one also conveniently ignores that defensive gun uses in this country are measured (at minimum) in the hundreds of thousands, with some studies showing them to be in the millions. So, when a nimrod politician like this is talking about what makes him feel "comfortable" - well, it just about makes my head explode. He's operating from a position of pure ignorance. The reality is that a law like this will have either zero (or a negligible) effect of lowering crime, but what it WILL do is create more victims because they weren't allowed the means to protect themselves. What a pompous little fool this man is.
  17. Yeeeessss! You are correct. I just did a search and see now that he was even on Tucker Carlson - and the NRA put that video on their channel. Good on them both. I'm shocked I never heard of this, but I'm not a regular Tucker Carlson viewer - just catch his stuff occasionally on YouTube. Stories like this do NOT get enough coverage! Meanwhile, the media is so obsessed about school shooters, they give them wall-to-wall coverage (probably just creating more copycats in doing so). Maddening!
  18. Wow! What a DGU story... watch this video! Honestly, I don't throw the word "hero" around lightly, but this guy, Raul... again, just wow. Pin a medal on his chest. I'm not going to give any "spoilers" - just watch it. So many interesting lessons you can take from this story.... It aggravates me to no end that I never even heard of this remarkable event through our biased, anti-2A mainstream media. I have always believed that DGU stories, even remarkably dramatic ones like this, are too often buried by the press. Frankly, from a PR perspective, I think even the 2A orgs have dropped the ball on covering DGU stories properly! You really need a video interview like this one (which, after all, is easily disseminated), as opposed to a few sentences printed in a hard copy NRA magazine. I'm so glad this man's story is being brought to light by Colion Noir - and that he wants to cover more of these. Bravo! 19. That Sheriff Judd always cracks me up! He's definitely one of the most quote-worthy lawmen out there... his press conferences are quite something.
  20. Another aviation geek here, lol. That's one of the regular YouTube channels I watch... and 74Gear is a fav, too. I'm always impressed with the level of cooperation that takes place when a pilot (and particularly a student pilot) is having an emergency. EVERYONE helps out... the controllers, any pilots who are in the area, etc. It's always nice to see such professionalism and decency!
  21. Psych hold... STAT! Yet another excellent example why they never should have closed down state mental hospitals across the country. Now the crazies walk among us.
