GSG-5 accessories, tips 'n tricks

Recommended Posts

So I've got a GSG-5 on order, wanted to brainstorm with some other GSG-5 owners on place to get accessories and tips for running the gun.

Here's a big ARFCOM thread on the GSG-5:

And the whole AFRCOM GSG-5 section:

Here's what I've found so far for accessories:

http://rrages.com/ - Customized foregrips, stocks, optics mounts and they have 15 round magazines in stock. They also have upgraded fastener and pin kits. Just placed an order with them today, will update with how it goes.

http://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/viewCategories.asp?idCategory=15 - Factory H&K parts, some of which will work with the GSG

Digz- Here is another video you will enjoy.

I purchased the screws and pins for my GSG but I have not installed them yet, additionally I have the buffer for the charging handle. The Pro Mag did not work as well as the factory for me, I am waiting for the factory 15 round magazines which were on backorder. If I ever shoot a match like in the video I will install a optical sight and the rail as needed.

I'm approaching 8000 rounds thru mine without any major problems.

Good Luck

Tom

Digz - The Pro Mag would not load correctly after 5-6 shots the bullet was jamming, close inspection revealed the angle of the plate inside the magazine was different then the factory, the bullets nose was not high enough. This was a magazine I had borrowed from a friend, I emailed my friend last night he replied that the manufacturer replaced that faulty mag and he has not had any trouble with the others (he has 6 all together). Make sure the follower in the magazine sits at the same angle as the factory, also do not hold the magazine while firing it causes jams with factory and Pro Mags.

Just a 22 . Goal is reliability, the factory screws loosen up and cause problems, don't mistake this as a big build we are talking about a $10.00 screw and nut kit and a $10.00 buffer for the bolt. ;)

So I officially don't like you Digs for making this thread. Now you got my head playing tricks on me. I was only going to buy the base model ruger 10/22 and you had to post this so now Im contemplating getting this now instead of the ruger and paying twice the price :)

hmmmm the options ohhh the options

No failures yet after 700 rounds. Had a couple of mag failures due to improper tension on the 15 round promags i purchased, i corrected the tension on the springs and walla!! Pretty accurate too even with my Aimpoint clone...can't complain!! "Tacticool" when outfitted with the right goodies!

Cons:

- There's no real "field strip" option on the gun, just various levels of detail strip. In order to give the gun a thorough cleaning you have to split it in half which requires manipulating lots of screws.

- You have to check the bolt jacket fasteners regularly to make sure they don't back out.

- It's finicky about ammo. Premium copper jacketed hollow points work best. Soft lead bullets just can't handle the feed ramp angle.

- Not a lot of availability/choice in NJ-compliant magazines. rrages.com is the only place I'm aware of selling 15 round mags.

Pros:

- When it's being fed the right ammo, it's (relatively) cheap rapid-fire plinking nirvana

- It's surprisingly accurate

- People love to shoot it and chicks dig it hard. Great "introductory" gun for first time shooters.
