renewed P2P

Recommended Posts

I actually had a good experience with my local PD and renewing my (2) p2p's this week. After the long drawn out process to get my FID and (1) permit I figured it would be a pain to renew my current permits. Once I realized that my original 90days had past I went to the PD to pickup another packet to start the process all over. The girls in the office were very nice and checked my file and saw they were expired by 1 week and told me to bring those permits back and they would still renew them. I was shocked! I ran right home and brought them right back before they changed their minds! They renewed them as if I came in on the last day of my original 90 days and didnt charge a cent.

I must have thanked them about 100 times! I was very happy that I didnt have to wait through the whole process again. Anyone else have a good experiences like this when renewing/getting permits to purchase?

I got my pistol permits yesterday. I asked about the extension and she said "You can renew them at any point up to 180 days. I thought that was a pretty good.

Glad for you, and somewhat encouraging. Me, I am still waiting since Oct 1st for the "county" to return whatever mental health paperwork my PD needs before they'll submit the package to the investigating officer. I have no good reason to believe that process will be quick, but I have to hope. I am irritated and quite tired of waiting to pick up my PM9. The variance in procedures and unpredictable outcomes across this state should raise a constitutional red flag.

But I'm so glad these rules and processes are keeping handguns away from criminals while not burdening the law-abiding. I feel so warm and safe with the PRNJ protecting me and mine from dangerous, old-fashioned, and outmoded liberties.

You have every right to feel this way. I did the same when it took my twp. almost 6mths to get my FID and (1) P2P. Thats is why I thought it was gunna be a hassel to get new P2Ps but was surprised when they renewed my old ones on the spot. I guess the sun shines on a bulls ass every once in a while! ;)

There really is no consistency in the process across the state. The only way things will change is if the 30-day time limit is actually enforced. It seems that many townships are aware of the 30-day limit, but arrogantly ignore it -- for example, in my town (Woodbridge, in Middlesex County), they state right on the application packet that it will take at least 2-3 months to process.

I actually was extremely lucky getting my initial FID and 3 handgun permits. It took a total of 28 days, and the whole process was handled very politely and professionally. But I know that some people who applied a couple of weeks before I did, but did not receive their permits until a couple of weeks after I picked up mine.

As it happens, today I received my letter to pick up my permits. I applied on Oct 1st, so I'll call it 60 days, which for me isn't too bad. The Detective was professional & courteous when I called a couple weeks ago to check on them. I called him today to thank him for the expeditious handling. Basically he wished me well and at the moment I feel like it's the night before christmas.... :D

Guess I gotta update my signature!
