Requirements for an address change on FID

I recently moved and now my DL does not match my FID and I plan on making some gun purchases in the next few months. When I went to my local PD to change the address on my FID I was told that "changing the address" is not possible and that I had to apply for a whole new card, including getting fingerprinted again, mental health records search, and paying all fees associated with a first time applicant.

 

Is this the proper process or am I getting jerked around?

you're getting jerked around. there is a change of Address form (NJSP form STS-3), although they do have to do the $18.00 background check now.

Just did this...

 

Moved in same town... one form... $18.00 for background as stated. New card within 45 days.

 

Different town, different story. If you move to a different town they redo the entire thing.

I did not have to redo entire thing when I changed towns.

 

No fingerprinting, just the $18.

I moved from Old Bridge to Middletown and applied for 3 permits at the same time, they only charged the $18 background check fee plus the $6 for the permits.

Different town. I wish it was the same town... I had an in there and got permits in a week.

same town for me, and was told it was just like applying for a new one, complete with all the forms and stuff. just had to check the "change of address" box.

I recently did change of address from a different town. At the same time I order 3 pistol permits. $18+$6. The only thing that wasnt so great was waiting 90 days. I didnt have to do fingerprints.
