Suppose I want to buy a gun that has too many evil features... can I have it shipped to a NJ FFL and have them swap the collapsible stock to a fixed and pin the 20 rd mags to 15? If so, anybody know who can do that type of thing?

Okay a dealer can possess the gun and only transfer it to a LE agency with the evil features.

 

The magazines must be permanently (means welding or shortening) limited to 15 rds. Pinning isn't going to get it.

 

Stock swap is easy.

 

It would seem you could buy a NJ compliant firearm easier. What kind of rifle is it?

Yes you can, you just have to check with the FFL that you're having it shipped too, since not all are able to do the modifications.

Has there ever been a definitive answer on what "permanently" means in regards to mags?

Thanks all. I'm looking at a used DPMS 308.... may just be cheaper to order it the way I want than pay somebody to swap the stock. Having the mags modified is definitely not worth it.

There is a member here (PK90) who can fix your mags legally, but he also stated to me recently that he believed 15 round AR mags will be more available in the near future for retail purchase.

Magpul has a line of 10 and 15 rounders coming out soon, they are listed on their site for 2010.
