I have no problem saying I'm a tree hugger.

 

We have a cabin in the adirondacks so hiking / camping / fishing / skiing / hunting are all deeply rooted in my family.

Interesting comments. I am reminded of the reports that of all the people that in some way contributed to the preservation of forests, the greatest amount of money and time given to preserve them come from riders of off-road vehicles.

 

I believe hunters come in second but only because hunting seasons are much shorter than riding seasons.

Shooting sports dedicate the most revenue to open space. Check the Pittman act of the 1930's...it mandates 11% tax on all 'gun' related purchases (ammo, guns, etc) and then the cost of the hunting licenses, over 150$ per year just on lic fees...
