Cherry Ridge trap setup

Recommended Posts

Me and my wife just joined CR and want to do some trap shooting. I shot trap a few times 20 years ago and she has only shot once to practice for her hunter’s safety course. At the new members meeting they told us that we needed our own trap thrower and said we should mount it a piece of plywood. Can anyone recommend a trap thrower that would work at CR? I seen really cheap ones ($30) that have spikes on them but not sure if that would work. I would be willing to spend between $150 to $200

Thanks

I bought a cheapy $29 thrower and mounted it to a piece of plywood which I used C-clamps to mount to the tables at CR.

It tosses them crappily. Others have the Trius trap and various other brands that work better.

Caine and I went out and bought electric throwers from Natchezss. Just under $300 after the rebate and shipping.

You can see my machine in action at Cherry Ridge about 2:40 in:

You can buy the same machine here:

$279 with a $50 rebate. Shipping is about $50 so it's $279.

The spikes are just bolted to the base. Take them off and use the holes to bolt the thrower to a slab of plywood. Bring 3 or 4 c-clamps and clamp the whole thing to one of the tables. It'll be plenty sturdy, and you won't have to bend down each time you need to load the thrower. I've seen guys shooting solo who have the release cord clipped to their belt. Load the thrower, tension the cord, and just lean back to release. Not a perfect solution, but you do what you have to get the clay in the air.
