pin a fake suppressor??

Recommended Posts

i was thinking about buying a 11.5" barrel and pinning a fake suppressor (spikes tactical)on it to make up the difference to over 16.1". has anyone tried to pin a fake can instead of just a muzzle brake? not sure how difficult it can be or does someone wanna do it for me?

while I have never done that I have to question the motivation...

you need 16 inches no matter what... so to me if you wanted something short.. do a 14 inch barrel and a pin on brake.. you are 16 inches either way.. but with the 14 inch and brake you are getting more barrel length for the actual bullet to travel through.... and you are getting the functionality of the brake.. all the while remaining legal.. 11in plus a real suppressor would be cool.. but a fake suppressor?

I'll have another toy for that.

there is nothing wrong with trying to put together something you find visually appealing.. or even "cool".. but when the modifications hinder the operation of the system with no real world benefit.. you end up with what? a bunch of money spent to make something look the role that it is not... not trying to persuade you against the plan you have.. your money.. your gun.. your choice.. but I still think you can get a similar "cool factor" without spending so much to hinder the operation of the weapon..

I have a barrel shroud on my Cx4 storm.. not necessary in any way.. but underneath of it there is still actual barrel.. so while the actual accessory is looks based.. I am not giving up barrel length or any other function to have it..

let us know what you decide.. once you do the project be sure to post up some pics..

The "fake suppressor" he's talking about is referring to these, I believe: http://www.spikestac...dex&cPath=78_31

If I am reading it right, these make the appearance of a 16'' barrel look like its an SBR with a sound suppressor, and not an actual short barrel with a permanently attached muzzle device. The accessory it self is just a barrel shroud that attaches via the threads normally used for more traditional muzzle devices (muzzle brakes, flash hiders, etc).

Like PK90 said though, the device would have to be permanently attached. Since these fake cans are made for 16'' barrels, the OAL (overall length) wouldn't be a Federal issue, but a state issue as you can't have a threaded barrel on rifles that fall under the NJ AWB. If you could find a way to permanently attach one of these fake cans though, I guess that would work?

ETA: If my assumptions above are correct, this is merely a cosmetic thing, and would have no impact on the operation of the rifle. Also, I'm no legal-eagle, but I'm not 100% positive that a fake can wouldn't be considered a non-compliant muzzle device (if it would even be considered a muzzle device to began with). I wouldn't think it would be as it functions as a shroud, and the rifle would essentially function as though it were a crowned barrel. Still, tread lightly.
