NJdiverTony 27 Posted February 7, 2012 Guns.com would never call a war story “normal” but the one we’ve got for you today has to rank up there as one of the most bizarre. It’s also a story that underlines how unpredictable a gun’s performance can be in the heat of battle and along those same lines, how resilient our troops can be when they’re in a war zone. On December 24, 2004 a US Sergeant Reservist Citizen Soldier was admitted to the Ibn Sina Hospital in Baghdad covered in his own blood. This was not an uncommon occurrence at the hospital but the story behind how he came to arrive there is fantastic and if you ever needed convincing to brush your teeth, here it is: Click link for rest of the story: http://www.guns.com/army-sergeant-took-9mm-round-to-face-saved-by-the-skin-of-his-teeth.html

NJdiverTony 27 Posted February 7, 2012 Yeah, pretty wild... The picture of the soldier with the 9mm bullet lodged in the place where his tooth used to be is nuts! You can clearly see the base of the bullet lodged in his gums. I'm glad the guy survived and put the smackdown on the insurgent that shot him.
RedBowTies88 41 Posted February 7, 2012 thats totally amazing and im glad the guy is OK but one has to wonder..... squib load?
Babyface Finster 45 Posted February 7, 2012 So the insurgent surrendered after shooting the soldier point-blank in the face? If the enemy was still breathing even a couple seconds later it is testament to the self-control of US soldiers.
RedBowTies88 41 Posted February 7, 2012 he didn't know he was shot or it may have ended differently... Upon more thought,...maybe it was 9x18?

GRIZ 3,369 Posted February 7, 2012 This is not the first time I've heard of this. http://www.nytimes.com/1997/04/18/us/2-customs-agents-shot-at-the-mexican-border.html The link doesn't tell the entire story. One of the inspectors was shot in the mouth, the bullet hit his teeth and took a 90 degree turn, exiting the bottom of his jaw, and lodging in the flesh of the inspector's chest (didn't penetrate the breastbone). The bg used a 380. The inspector hit the BG 3 times, killing him. Not quite the same but a friend of mine in Vietnam was yawning when a AK round entered his mouth at an angle and exited his cheek. It didn't touch his teeth. He was in the hospital for a week or so, back at battalion for light duty fow a few weeks and back in the field in about a month. There is someone who watches after the good guys.

PhilipJFry 4 Posted February 8, 2012 My cousin took 3 .45 rounds to the face point blank and lived. He is an ex 82nd Airborne paratrooper. http://www.thehighro...hp/t-24876.html He said the worst part was watching himself get shot on the dash cam tape.
