farfromahero 1 Posted March 31, 2012 I haven't been in the salt water game for some time. I have been mostly fishing fresh water since I moved from the shore area. I have a half decent spinning rod, I just do not know where to start for bait/lures and other gear that might be helpful. any advice for the south Jersey shore areas would be great. blksheep 466 Posted March 31, 2012 If I remember correctly you need a Federal License? Registry? I have one register online it is free. I generally use freash clams and bunker when I go down to IBSP. Here is a good website that I like and generally gives updates everyday on what fish are hitting on. http://bettyandnicks.com/
blksheep 466 Posted March 31, 2012 I generally use a 10' pole to get over the break with what ever sinker is holding that day.
Sandy 44 Posted March 31, 2012 Nah , you don't need an NJ or any license for recreational surf fishing. http://njgunforums.c...__fromsearch__1 I used to go ( before kids) all the time in Point Pleasant . Sometimes we buy bunker , or those damn freaky looking worms that bite . Yeah , I'm 41 and my dad still baits my hooks. The bait stores along the peir in Point Pleasant are good. We usually hit the surf at crack of dawn. If you're not experienced in Salt Water Fishing , take a few trips out on the Norma K or Cock Robin. The Dauntless is good too. I believe it is about 45 to 60 bucks ( dpending on what you are going for ) and you can rent a pole . They give you the bait ..the mates are real good at helping you if you are not experienced , the other experienced fisherman are pretty decent too. Or , if you can get a few guys to go out with you , rent The Purple Jet ad go out to Chicken Canyon. That is a great trip! http://www.purplejet.com/

Sandy 44 Posted March 31, 2012 Interesting , never saw that before or heard it mentioned and I have been a member of Surfriders Foundation for many years. It says it is a registry , not a license ? I have never been told anything was compulsory in NJ for any kind of recreational Salt Water fishing. I'll have to read up on that I guess
blksheep 466 Posted March 31, 2012 Me too....I did my Fed registry a couple years back...havent thought much of it since...till now..

Sandy 44 Posted March 31, 2012 It would be cool to get a charter with a bunch of forum fishers some time Or get a team for a fluke run or something.
blksheep 466 Posted March 31, 2012 Sounds like a great idea...we usually fish off IBSP or when in Forida off the beaches near Flagler...
Sandy 44 Posted March 31, 2012 Florida fishing is a treat alright . Only went twice ..once to the keys and once off Daytona Went Gulf fishing to a bunch of times. I use to be able to expense account charters and take customers out. Wait , WHY did I have kids ?!?!?!? Oh yeah , so they can take ME fishing when I am older like I do for my dad:) I can't anchor to wrecks unless I mix dramamine and canned beer. Has to be from the can. I don't know why. I love blackfish though so sometimes you do what you have to do. I prefer to troll on any day I may put a shout out in a few weeks to try and get a charter going . EMB 1 Posted April 1, 2012 I can't anchor to wrecks unless I mix dramamine and canned beer. Dramamine and canned beer - mmmm!! Breakfast of champions... I'm with you on this - trolling is definitely better if you suffer from motion sickness. I would recommend Bonine over dramamine, since you don't get nearly as tired. I actually used to resort to the patches that you wear behind the ear for overnight tuna trips, which you can get prescribed. It's been years though, and I don't remember what they were called. Sandy 44 Posted April 1, 2012 It's weird , I 'll fine for say 9 or 10 trips , no sickness , then I'll get hit with it out of nowhere. Probably depends on sinuses /conjestion/ear fluid stuff or something. I've done a few 3 or 4 day Tuna trips both here and in Mass...no problem. Then I'll anchor over a wreck one day local and I need to chum.

I have the gear but have not actually got out to try fishing off the beach. Maybe a few members will meet up sometime this spring. I live down the road from IBSP.
