Peter Verniero says the NJ AWB is very clear on what it bans

NJTV interview with Peter Verniero about gun control. For those of you who don't know, he was the former NJ AG that came up with the "evil features" list after the court ruled "substantially identical" too vague a standard to identify banned semiautos not on the actual list.

 

The most mind boggling thing he said was:

 

“We’ve had such a ban for many years,” said Verniero, who added that the New Jersey law is very specific about what it bans. “We have an actual list, it’s very specific in the statute and then there’s a catch-all phrase that anything that’s substantially identical to the list will be considered and we haven’t had any real problems with enforcement.”

Neither this clarification regarding the classification of the Colt Match Target Rifle and the M1A Rifle, nor the guidelines issued August 19, 1996, regarding the “substantially identical” provision of the assault weapons law applies to firearms that are specifically listed in N.J.S.A.2C:39-1w(2) as prohibited firearms or to firearms which are banned at “types” of named prohibited firearms.
