ogfarmer 138 Posted February 6, 2013 I found some of this available for decent price and not sure if its corrosive or not Bullet Type: FMJ, Full Metal Jacket Bullet Weight: Bullet Jacket: Copper Washed Case: Steel Velocity: ft/s Powder: Primer: Berdan Amount: 700 Round Ammo Can Notes: This is Bulgarian surplus, bright and shiny. I have read conflicting things about this ammo, this is info I found on another site "On the chart number 2 FMJ lead core is corrosive. Number 10 FMJ lead core is non-corrosive. http://arsenal-bg.co...ice/7,62x39.htm Corrosive has a steel case, non-corrosive has a bi-metal case. http://www.arsenal-b...ice/7,62x39.htm Sometimes (but not always) green sealant indicates non-corrosive and red sealant is corrosive. There is also purple sealant and some sort of orange sealant just to add confusion. Since it says so on the chart I would think it might say non-corrosive on the tin or the wooden case that holds two tins. Otherwise I would think it might be corrosive." rightisright 3 Posted February 6, 2013 Corrosive primers are easy to deal with. Just bring a bottle of Windex (or other window cleaner) and a bore snake to the range with you. Quick range cleaning followed by a good cleaning at home and you are done.
Sigman 41 Posted February 6, 2013 I would treat any surplus ammo like that as corrosive. I shoot it in my bolt guns since they're easy to clean. Hoppe's #9 removes corrosive salts, no need for windex.
HODGIE 3 Posted February 6, 2013 If it's a good price get it, dealing with corossive ammo is simple as stated above. Just wet down a bore snake with windex and run it through the bore a few times then clean out the action with some add some oil and you are good to go until you do a full cleaning down the line. Bagarocks 36 Posted February 7, 2013 Hot soapy water will dissolve any corrosive salts and stop corrosion in its tracks, then just let it dry, clean at yer convenience with yer favorite barrel cleaner. I use Hoppes #
halbautomatisch 60 Posted February 7, 2013 I shoot corrosive all the time, even in AK types and SKS's, they're so easy to field strip and clean, why pay extra for non corrosive?
