Is there any paper work involved? i asked him for he is older and owned firearms for a long time and he said there is no transfer paper involved. Is this correct?

Long gun requires the buyer to have a FPID and you need to fill out two COE's - one for the buyer and one for the seller.

 

Handguns require a P2P with the copies properly disbursed after the sale.

 

Remember, in NJ, blackpowder firearms are treated just like modern firearms. In the free world, not so much.
