223 or 556 for my Stag 15?

Apologies if this has been covered, but I couldn't find a thread here.

 

I brought home my Stag 15 in 5.56 chambering finally. NICS took forever. I have been building up a box here and there of Remington .223 because that is all I can find locally (55 grain, IIRC). No 5.56 ever.

 

Is this an acceptable round for this rifle? Is there any point to hunting elsewhere for a 5.56 box? I'm not hunting with it, more for zombie defense and if I can, the occasional range practice.

.223 and 5.56 are basically the same

 

only thing you don't do is use 5.56 in a .223 stamped barrel. but vice versus is fine

Both will shoot just fine!

 

5.56 is the NATO military round and is a little higher pressure in the chamber.

223 REM is the commercial version.

 

You can shoot either in a 5.56 barrel.

 

If your rifle was mark 223, then you can ONLY shoot 223 in that rifle.

Don't shoot it...give all that .223 to me immediately for disposal....

 

 

Just kidding as others have said a 5.56 stamped barrel shoots either 5.56 or .223. Shoot away and enjoy.
