Are we free?

Recommended Posts

Here is an interesting read, was reading nj.com and found this.

Apparently we rank 48 by freedoms in the Mercatus Center (Koch brother on the board) George Mason University Study.

Nice read:

Not surprised at all, but happy there's a scientific explanation for what I'm feeling. But the wife got onboard with leaving - big milestone. Now got to convince the rest of the family

Interesting that they include "economic freedom" in the calculation. Alaska jumped out at me as unexpectedly un-free, and on reading, it has very good personal freedom but lots of fiscal problems.

Interesting to note that NY ranked dead last...before the SAFE act. Now, there's probably no point in even comparing it with American states.

Speaking of the Koch brothers, where are they in this whole debacle. It's interesting that any time they used their money, the media characterized it as part of a nefarious conservative anti-democratic conspiracy. But when Bloomberg blatantly buys elections in other states, he's a hero. We could use some Koch money right about now.

Not the least bit surprised. The only surprise is that we weren't dead last

Alaska ranks #44 and Colorado (Yes, that Colorado! The one that's driving Magpul out of the state!) #7.

It depends somewhat on how you weight the importance of your favorite freedoms. Or vices.

Most of the other big blue states have the potential to rocket past us in freedoms lost before this is all over. Methinks that this is kinda like the list of "best states to retire to"... your "best state" is much different if you're rich than if you're poor / if you're sick than if you're healthy.

This is not about gun control. It's also their smoking, drinking and food laws. A guy from Staten Island told me once it's illegal to change the oil in your own driveway. And so on.

WHY ARE WE TO FEAR THE COLD OF WINTER WHEN THE FIRES OF LIBERTY SHALL WARM OUR HEARTS?

I'd rather be colder and free than warmer while shoulder deep in poo. Then again, I don't like shoveling snow... :onthequiet:

Yeah, you can go SOUTH :)
