New to AR's

Recommended Posts

I've noticed that prices are AR's have come down, and there is seemingly a fairly good supply of stock around.  I'll get one at some point but am wondering, for a first rifle, are you better off with something off the shelf, like a MP 15 Sport or a Sig 556, or building one.

It seems to me that a NIB rifle is the way to start, and then perhaps build the second, or modify the first as a prelude to an actual build.

What does the brain trust say?

There are several threads on this topic, but to answer your question, I would recommend at least buying and building a lower and trying to find the right upper combo you want.  The lower is relatively simple to build with household tools.

You will spend less money doing this way.
