what caliber 5.56 or 308? for new build?

Im thinking about doing another build, but not sure which caliber to go with? Purely range and defensive use.

If you reload there are lots of other options. If you only want plinking and HD and something different isn't what you are looking for then save yourself some money and get .223

Personal preference but my next build is going to 6.8g probably.

 

Something a little out of the norm.

I'd probably build a Grendel because it's all AR parts except bolt and barrel.  .308 is great but will cost lots to build.  Do you handload?

I just got my .264 / 6.5G barrel from Black Hole, it looks awesome ! I fully expect it to be a very accurate 1000 yard rifle.

I really like my Grendel but built a 6mmAR which has very interesting ballistics.  I still have a Grendel and like it better than my 6.8 SPC.

There are so many interesting calibers to choose from for my next build. 20 practical 30 American and .243 are the ones I'm thinking of.

Why is that ? On the AR forum I like there is someone that competes - and wins a lot. One of his favorite guns that he has won many matches with is his .243

I guess it depends on which games you play. For 3gun, I don't see the point of 243.

I've been hearing really good things about 6x45. Might be worth a look-see. In an AR (which I'm assuming you are building) it's a barrel swap and neck the brass from 5.56 to 6 and go shoot. Not like 300BO with the cutting and stuff. Apparently works really well it of shorter barrels.

 

223AI will most likely be my next out of a 700. It's an easy fireform using factory ammo. So 2 calibers from 1 rifle.
